From 2012 to 2022, the region is projected toexperience a total employment growth ofnearly 149,000 or 8.0 percent, the largestemployment growth amongst all regions inthe state. In 2012, Bergen County had the largestemployment across NJ (479,950). The county isprojected to have the largest employmentgrowth from 2012 to 2022 ( 45,850). Management, sales, office and administrativesupport, and healthcare occupations had thelargest employment levels amongst all countiesin NJ. Healthcare support occupations are projected togrow by more than 35 percent, adding 7,800jobs over the ten year period. SUSSEXWARREN The Northwestern Region is by far thesmallest in the state, making up only 1.9percent of the employment in NJ in 2012. From 2012 to 2022, the region is projectedto account for only 1.8 percent of theemployment growth. Despite being the 4th largest county in New Jerseyby area, Sussex County had the 3rd lowestemployment level in 2012 (42,000). HUNTERDON MIDDLESEXMERCERSOMERSET In 2012, the Central Region made up morethan 1/5 of NJ employment (942,650). From 2012 to 2022, employment in theregion is projected to grow by 8.3 percent,adding nearly 79,000 jobs. The region is projected to have the secondlargest amount of annual average jobopenings from 2012 to 2022 ( 30,130). In 2012, Middlesex County had the second largestemployment in New Jersey (434,500) andaccounted for nearly half of all occupations foundin the Central Region (46.1%). From 2012 to 2022, the county is projected to haveboth the second largest net growth ( 35,450), andannual average job openings ( 13,890) in NJ. Middlesex County ranked #1 in 2012 for mostemployment in computer and mathematical,production, and transportation and materialmoving occupations. ATLANTICCAPE MAYMONMOUTHOCEAN In 2012, the Coastal Region was the thirdlargest region, accounting for more than 15percent of the employment in NJ (634,100). From 2012 to 2022, employment in theregion is projected to grow by 6.9 percent,adding more than 44,000 jobs. The region is projected to have 20,810annual average job openings, a majority ofwhich are due to replacement (15,670),while only 5,150 are due to growth. Despite being the 2nd largest county by area,Ocean County ranked 13th with only 166,450employment in 2012. From 2012 to 2022, Ocean County is projected toexperience the 5th largest total percent gain in NJ( 8.8%), much faster than the State ( 7.5%). Ocean County accounts for a third of theprojected total net growth for the Coastal Regionover the ten year period ( 14,700). Computer and mathematical occupations areprojected to grow by nearly 19 percent ( 200). From 2012 to 2022, the region is projectedto add 35,000 jobs and is expected to growby 5.6 percent. Over the ten year period, the region isprojected to have nearly 19,000 annualaverage job openings.
