KERALA AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITYPOST GRADUATE PROGRAMMESPROSPECTUS 2020-21INTRODUCTIONThe Kerala Agricultural University is an institution which came into existence on the 24thday of February, 1971 by the Act passed by the Government of Kerala. The University is theprincipal instrument of Kerala state in providing human resources, skills and technology requiredfor the sustainable development of its agriculture, agricultural engineering, horticulture andforestry by integrating education, research and extension.The University fulfills its mission through a network of institutions spread throughout theState consisting of three faculties under which are 7 constituent Colleges, 6 Regional AgriculturalResearch Stations, 16 Research Stations, one Central Training Institute, one CommunicationCentre and seven Krishi Vigyan Kendras. There is a network of libraries, including a CentralLibrary in the main campus, constituent Colleges, RARS, Research Stations and KVKs.Post-graduate programmes are offered in almost all the disciplines with specializationsrelated to agriculture. In 29 disciplines, the university offers post-graduate programmes leading toMasters degree. Doctoral programmes are offered in 10 disciplines of Agriculture, five disciplinesof Horticulture, five disciplines of Forestry, three disciplines of Agricultural Engineering and onediscipline in Community Science and one in Rural Marketing Management Five Disciplines ofHorticulture are Vegetable Science, Plantation Crops and Spices, Fruit Science, Floriculture &Landscape Architecture and Post Harvest Technology.1. Applications of candidates withrelevant qualification from Universities accredited by ICAR/ State Agricultural Universities/Central Universities/ Central Agricultural Universities/ ICAR Deemed Universities are generallyaccepted except for admission to Community Science and Agricultural Statistics.Eligibility Criteria for the admission of ICAR students will be as per ICAR norms.Ph.D programmesa)Eligibility for Ph.D Programme except in Community ScienceMaster’s Degree in the respective discipline /related discipline from the faculty concernedof KAU or a recognised equivalent qualification with an OGPA of 7.0/10.0 for general categoryand 6.5/10.0 for SC/ST. A basic degree in Agri./Hort./Ag.Engg./Forestry is essential for allrespective Ph.D courses except Community Science. Basic Degree UG 4 years PG 2 years froma University approved by KAU will be strictly followed for admissions to the Ph.D. programmesexcept Community Science

b)Eligibility for Community ScienceThe minimum eligibility for admission to Ph.D in Community Science(Food Science &Nutrition) shall be M Sc. in Community Science or equivalent recognised by KAU with an OGPAof 7.0/10.0 for general category and 6.5/10.0 for SC/ST or 60% marks for general category and50% marks for SC/ST under traditional system.M Sc./ M.Tech ProgrammesMinimum OGPA requirement for Kerala Agricultural University Graduates for M.Sc./M.Tech. (AgriculturalEngineering)A bachelor degree in Agricultural Engineering/ FoodEngineering# or an equivalent degree recognized by KAU with anOGPA of 7.00/10.00 for general candidates and 6.50/10.00 forSC/ST.# B.Tech (Food Engineering) graduates are eligible to apply only for the discipline of “ Processingand Food Engineering”.GENERAL NOTE:Students in the final semester of their degree programme are also eligible to apply.However, the final result notification/Provisional Certificate should be produced on orbefore the last date prescribed in the time schedule for submission of mark list/ Degree/provisional certificate with OGPA. Applications of those candidates who do not producethe final result notification/ Provisional Certificate for their respective degree programmebefore the prescribed date will not be considered any further for admission and will bedeemed as rejected. No further claim in this regard will be entertained.4. System of Teaching and EvaluationSemester system of instruction and internal/external evaluation will be followed.5. Reservation of seats and admission for sponsored candidates25% of the seats shall be reserved for the eligible candidates sponsored by the ICAR basedon All India Entrance Examination conducted by ICAR. At the time of admission, ICARcandidates have to fill the Bio data and remit the fees as prescribed by KAU.5.1 In service candidatesCandidates sponsored by the Govt. of Kerala are admitted over and above the intakecapacity subject to availability of faculty and facilities. Intending candidates will have tosubmit their application through their Heads of Departments concerned within thestipulated time and should attach a certificate of sponsorship and experience from theconcerned employer. They should also satisfy the required qualification for admission andthey are exempted from writing entrance examination. Sponsored candidate is a candidatedeputed by the respective development department, research institutions of nationalimportance, Commodity Boards and other Government and Quasi Governmentdevelopment institutions. The expenditure towards the Post Graduate programme of suchstudents will be met by the sponsoring agency or the student. For inservice candidates fromKerala Agricultural University, application submitted through Registrar with No ObjectionCertificate will only be considered for admission. No advance copy will be considered.One seat each for M Sc.(Ag.) Plant Physiology and M Sc.(Ag.) Agricultural Entomologywill be reserved for the candidates from the Union Territory of Lakshadweep provided thatthe entire expenditure on account of the programme is met by the Union Territory ofLakshadweep. At the time of admission, candidates have to fill the Bio data and remit thefees as prescribed by KAU.6. How to ApplyApplication forms and prospectus for admission to the above PG /Ph.D programmes areavailable in the KAU website www.admissions.kau.in. Candidate should submit theapplication online after registering in the website. Hard copy of the online application shallbe forwarded along with the required documents (see Para-8 below) and details of fees tothe Registrar, Kerala Agricultural University, KAU P.O., Thrissur, Kerala - 680 656before the last date prescribed for the submission of hard copy of online application. The

online application will be valid only if the University receives the hard copy of applicationand other documents within the stipulated time. Applications received late or founddefective or incomplete in any manner or which do not contain any of the enclosuresspecified are liable to be summarily rejected. The candidates are advised to read theinstructions given in the website carefully before filling up the application. Any other mode of payment will not be accepted.The Application fee/additional fee once remitted will not be refunded under anycircumstances.NB: The candidates are required to enter details of the fee paid in the online applicationform. Application forms without receipt of online payment attached will besummarily rejected. Candidates must ensure the payment before attaching theonline receipt of payment.7. Admission to Foreign StudentsThe foreign students shall apply through the Indian Missions in the respective country andthe application with bio-data and copies of certificates to prove qualification and age hasto be forwarded to the Government of India by the Indian Embassy/Mission in concernedcountry. The Govt. of India, ICAR or EdCIL arranges for admission through the IndianCouncil of Agricultural Research/ DARE/ EdCIL. The seats allotted to foreign studentswill be over and above the notified strength in each course.Foreign students who have arrived in India on tourist visa will not be admitted unless theyhave taken the prior approval of the Government of India to their visa being converted tostudent visa. But their applications will be provisionally considered and their eligibility

decided. An ‘Eligibility Certificate’ with indication of last date by which they must jointhe course will be issued to the eligible candidates and they will be advised to approach theMinistry of Home Affairs through the Foreigners' Registration Officer or the StateGovernment where the foreign students are temporarily residing at the time of application.With such application for conversion of their visa they should attach the eligibilitycertificate in original.Before actually joining the course, foreign students will also be required to fill in therelevant particulars in the application form obtainable from the Kerala AgriculturalUniversity Office on payment of the required fee.No self-financing foreign student will be admitted to any of the courses in KAU. Penalty for false informationAny candidate who is found to have willfully or otherwise given any particulars which are falseor has suppressed material facts or does not satisfy the requisite qualification for admission shallbe disqualified. They shall not be allowed to continue on the rolls of the University, if it isdetected at any stage of his/her studentship in the University. In case the candidate has alreadygraduated from the University, then the degree awarded by the University will be withdrawn.
