Optional MERV 13 Makeup Air Filter kit available (RAK13)The GE Zoneline Makeup Air system provides an option tostandard building ventilation designs. With dedicated fans in the Makeup Air system (adjustableto 6 pre-set fan speeds), the Makeup Air Zoneline canprovide positive pressure Makeup Air for those projectslooking for alternatives to having a rooftop system ductedto each individual room. The main system provides the standard individual roomzone control in both cooling and heating applications. TheMakeup Air module is a secondary sealed system withdedicated fans that offers 6 pre-set fan speeds (25-50CFM) of continuous dehumidified Makeup Air.DOOR VENT & OCCUPANCY SENSINGZoneline Makeup Air features a motorized vent door. When paired with an approved occupancy system andthe room is unoccupied, the vent door will close, and theMakeup Air system will shut down. This design saves energy and money by runningthe makeup system only when needed, while allowingthe PTAC system to operate independently.AGENCY LISTINGBoth the Makeup Air Module & Zoneline system areapproved by UL, CEC, NRCAN & AHRI and complywith ASHRAE 90.1-2013 minimum efficiencyrequirements for PTACs.Specifications subject to change.ARCHITECTS & ENGINEERS DATA MANUAL AZ45/AZ65 SERIES8Add the benefit of our second generation of Makeup Airto the industry’s most trusted PTAC, with GE Zoneline Makeup Air. Factory-installed and tested, the Makeup Airmodule is an independent secondary system that providesoutdoor air continuously.THE MAKEUP AIRMODULE COMESINSTALLED IN SELECTZONELINE PTAC UNITS.DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS Makeup Air systems are not recommended for installationwithin 1-2 miles of coastal areas.- Units are not corrosion protected- To avoid bringing corrosive air into the living space The Makeup Air Module will increase room loadrequirements for both heating and cooling.- Consult with your architect or engineer to ensure propersizing of the PTAC/PTHP unit to accommodate thisadditional load.- Due to the additional heating and cooling load, energy costs of the room will increase with the useof Makeup Air.- Because Makeup Air increases room BTU loadrequirements and requires additional PTAC coolingor heating, the building’s electrical needs maybe impacted. Remote thermostats should be used with Makeup Airmodels. With the additional dehumidification of outside air, morecondensate will be generated and therefore an internalor external piped drain line is recommended. Total building air design should be considered withMakeup Air PTAC’s/PTHP’s and especially with occupancysensing thermostats and the ability to turn off the MakeupAir and close the vent door when the room is unoccupied. With the additional pathway/opening for outside air, additional consideration should be used for areas withhigh exterior noise (traffic, airports, etc.) to notunintentionally bring noise into the room and disturbthe guest. It is the architects’/engineers’/contractors’ /customers’responsibility to verify all state and local codes to ensureproduct meets local code requirements.NOTE : Makeup Air models should not be used withducted installations.ARCHITECTS & ENGINEERS DATA MANUAL AZ45/AZ65 SERIES9

THE ZONELINE AZ45 AND AZ65 SERIES have changes suggested by customers and enhancements fromGE Appliances Engineering to make product improvements and meet the changing environment. Quieter Operation Ease of access—fewer screws and number of parts Make up air module Cross-flow blower across the product line for quieter operationSee the “Features and Benefits” section for in-depth explanation of these changes and the industry-leading featuresof GE Appliances Zoneline retained from previous series.DRY A I R 25THE ZONELINE AZ45 SERIES INCLUDES “DRY AIR 25" MODELS, WHICH REMOVE 20-35%MORE MOISTURE THAN OTHER ZONELINE MODELS*.As warm, humid air is pulled through the front (precool) section of the heat pipe, the heat removed fromthe air is absorbed by the refrigerant, causing therefrigerant to change to a gas and flow to the rear (reheat) section of the heat pipe. The air leaving the precool section of the heat pipe is cooler and at a higherrelative humidity level than the room air. The pre-cooledair is further cooled as it passes through the evaporator, consequently allowing the evaporator coil to removemore moisture.DRY AIR 25 MODELS COOLING WITHRESISTANCE HEAT Removes 20-35% more moisture than standardZoneline models* Dry Air is a separate sealed refrigerant system—No mechanical parts—No special maintenance required Helps maintain lower relative humidity in rooms Maintains comfort at slightly higher room temperatures—Reduces operating costs—Provides comfort without overcooling Corrosion treatment is standard Excellent choice for humid climates Available in 7,000, 9,000 and 12,000 BTU sizesThe Dry Air 25 system, a heat pipe, is a hermetically sealedheat transfer surface installed in a “saddlebag” configurationaround the indoor (evaporator) coil of the Zoneline unit. Thiscoil arrangement will transfer heat from the front coil of thesaddlebag to the rear coil without power consumption. This assembly uses R-410A as the refrigerant and is notconnected to the regular Zoneline refrigerant circuit. When the cold air from the evaporator comes in contactwith the re-heat section of the heat pipe, the heat thatwas removed by the pre-cool section is added back tothe air and the refrigerant in the heat pipe condensesand flows back to the pre-cool (front) section. The airdischarged into the room by this process is much drier, creating a more comfortable room condition. The Dry Air 25 models center around GE Appliance’sheat pipe technology. This technology enables Dry Air25 to remove 20-35% more moisture from the air thanother leading manufacturers’ packaged terminal airconditioners. This helps maintain room comfort at ahigher room temperature, reducing operating costs. The Dry Air 25 keeps a room cool and dry, and this is themost important benefit when it comes to the occupantof the room—hotel guests, apartment residents, students. In a hot, humid climate, getting away fromthe humidity is just as important as getting away fromthe heat, and the Dry Air 25 is the perfect solution. Thedehumidification of the Dry Air 25 has been verified bythe same AHRI test conditions under which standardunits are rated.NOTE : Dry Air 25 models are not for use withducted applications.* Varies when comparing dehumidification rates of the 7,000/9,000/12,000 BTU basemodels to their Dry Air model counterparts.Specifications subject to change.ARCHITECTS & ENGINEERS DATA MANUAL AZ45/AZ65 SERIES10FFEATURESE AT U RE S&&BENEFITSB E NE F ITSSTANDARD PHYSICAL DIMENSIONSGE Appliances has maintained the same wall sleevedimensions since 1961—42" wide x 16" high x 13-3/4"deep—making replacement of older units easy.WEATHER RESISTANT SYSTEM SEALPer AHRI, the air infiltration rate shall not exceed 19.3 CFMat the perimeter of the wall sleeve where it normallyprojects through the wall. With superior design and premium materials, a properlyinstalled Zoneline unit in an undistorted sleeve keeps airleakage to a minimum (5 CFM).COMPOSITE BASE PANThe base pan is made of SMC and comes standard on allmodels. Since the base pan is exposed to the elementsand is a water bearing device, this composite (non-metal)base pan eliminates the concern or problem of rustingmetal base pans.HEATER SIZES TO MEET ROOM REQUIREMENTSAll units are equipped with a universal heater—the resistance heat output is determined by powerconnection kit.230/208 Volt Units15 AMP Circuits—2.4/1.96 KW—RAK315P and RAK315D20 AMP Circuits—3.4/2.78 KW—RAK320P and RAK320D30 AMP Circuits—4.8/3.93 KW—RAK330P and RAK330D265 Volts Units15 AMP Circuits—2.4 KW—RAK515D20 AMP Circuits—3.4 KW—RAK520D30 AMP Circuits—4.8 KW—RAK530DUNIT CONTROLSAZ45 and AZ65 Series—touch pad controls with large, white LED readout with auto dimming feature, eliminatesthe need for the control cover.HIGHLY FEATURED MICROPROCESSOR CONTROLSMicroprocessor controls are programmed to interface withthe temperature sensors to maximize comfort conditionsor the room occupant and provide outstandingperformance features.Thermistors are used to sense small changes in temperatureto give excellent room control and allow the microprocessorto monitor and react to changing conditions.ELECTRIC RESISTANCE HEAT LOCK-OUTTo maximize the savings of the heat pump operation, theZoneline heat pumps do not utilize the resistance heaterwhen the outdoor temperature is above 46 F (and below85 F) during normal operation. The term “broken windows” is a metaphor that alludes to the fact that if a broken window is left unfixed, it indicates that no one cares and invites more broken win-dows and more serious criminal behavior (Sousa & Kelling, 2006). Research results of the effectiveness of broken windows policing have been mixed.
