Welcome!The nursing faculty of Casper College extends a warm welcome to you. We hope that yourcoming years at Casper College will be meaningful. We want to assist you in every way inattaining your goal of becoming a professional registered nurse.The information contained in this handbook is meant to supplement the Casper CollegeCatalog and the student handbook published by the college. The current handbook will beavailable on-line. Please refer to as needed. Changes to the handbook will be updated atsemester unless immediate notification is indicated. Casper College School of Health ScienceAdmission, Progression, and Core Performance Standards1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8.Students may take classes at Casper College as non-degree seeking students, but thefaculty recommend that those interested in Health Science programs apply as degreeseeking students. This allows the student to take full advantage of formal academicadvising.To apply as a degree-seeking student, the applicant must:a.Submit a completed Casper College application for admission to EnrollmentServices. Available online: www.caspercollege.edu A-Z indexb.Submit applicable transcripts, immunization records and test scores, see theonline catalog for specific eligibility requirements.When the above documents are received, and the applicant is admitted, EnrollmentServices Office will invite the applicant to advising and registration.For admission and progression in a Casper College Health Science Program, aqualified individual is one who, with or without reasonable accommodation ormodification, meets the essential eligibility requirements for participation in theprogram. All Health Science programs have a competitive selection process,application deadlines and materials, and pre-requisite course work. Please reviewthe department’s online information at www.caspercollege.edu.The Health Science fields are practice disciplines with cognitive, sensory, affective,and psychomotor performance requirement. Based on these requirements, a list of“Core Performance Standards” has been developed. These standards are part ofprogram courses, and some of the standards are more prevalent than others. Thesestandards will be used to assist faculty, the Program Director, and the School ofHealth Science Dean in determining whether a student meets the essential eligibilityrequirements for admission and progression in the program. These standards shouldalso be used to assist students in determining whether accommodations ormodifications are necessary for the student to meet program requirements. Studentswho identify potential difficulties with meeting the “Core Performance Standards”must communicate their concerns to the Accommodative Services Counselor as wellas the Program Director. Determination is made on an individual basis as to whethera student meets the essential eligibility requirements or whether or not the necessaryaccommodations or modifications can be made reasonably for participation in theHealth Science program.For your safety and for the safety of patients, if you have any medical condition thatmay require accommodations, work with your instructor, the program director, andthe office of Disabilities Services to discuss necessary accommodations. Examplesof medical conditions that may require accommodations include but are not limitedto autoimmune disorders, pregnancy, and acute or chronic health conditions.All admitted Health Sciences students are expected to participate in simulationactivities and consent to video recording to optimize instruction and learning. Alllearning activities associated with simulation are confidential.Readmission into a Casper College Health Science Program or transfer betweenCasper College Health Science programs is at the discretion of the faculty and dean.The faculty and dean will base readmission or transfer decisions on the adopted6

Clinical Accessibility Policy StatementCasper College Health Science programs utilize a variety of health care agencies in thecommunity for clinical experience for the students. If you have been employed in one or moreof the agencies and are not eligible for rehire as an employee, the agency may not permit youto participate in the essential clinical component of the program.Please contact the Human Resources department of the affected agency and requestdocumentation from HR that states the agency’s position on your participation in the clinicalcomponent of the program. If you receive a negative response from the agency, you areautomatically ineligible to apply. A response indicating you will be permitted to attendclinical in the agency will be given to the program director prior to the selection process foradmission to the program. If you are unable to fulfill clinical requirements due to a previousemployment issue or another issue(s) and have not complied with the above, you could bedenied entry in a Health Science program or be dismissed from program. Some programs donot have clinical assignments until the second, third, or fourth semester; students who are deniedclinical accessibility at any time prior to or during a program will be dismissed.Student Driver’s License and Automobile Liability Policy StatementHealth Science students are responsible for transportation to activities associated with theirprogram of study. This typically involves the utilization of a reliable, personal vehicle. Alladmitted Health Science students must provide copies of a valid driver’s license and proof ofauto insurance card for their personal vehicles. The minimum auto insurance requirements forWyoming, or the state in which the vehicle is registered must be met. Students must maintainboth for the duration of their health science program, and may be asked to present proof atany time during their program of study. To remain in compliance with this policy, studentsmust also notify the program director or faculty should their driving or insurance statuschange at any time during their participation in a Health Science program. Health Sciencestudents, parents, guardians, heirs and estate release Casper College, and any agent thereof,of any and all legal liability which may accrue and understand that Casper College’sinsurance program will not cover any loss damage or claims incurred as a result of drivingtheir personal vehicles for requirements and activities associated with their program. HealthScience students understand and agree that they are wholly responsible for any other personthey invited or accepted as a passenger and release Casper College from any and allresponsibility and liability for passengers.Health Science students who are unable to present a valid driver’s license and proof of autoinsurance card must sign an additional waiver provided upon request.Health Insurance Policy StatementStudents enrolled in any of the health science programs are required to present proof of healthinsurance and to maintain personal health insurance for the duration of their program.
