Chapter 2: InstallationThis is a Micro-STX form factor (5.8-in x 7.4-in) motherboard. Before you install themotherboard, study the configuration of your chassis to ensure that the motherboardfits into it.Make sure to unplug the power cord before installing or removing themotherboard. Failure to do so may cause physical injuries to you anddamages to motherboard components.2.1 Screw HolesPlace screws into the holes to secure the motherboard to the chassis.Do not over-tighten the screws! Doing so may damage the motherboard.2.2 Pre-installation PrecautionsTake note of the following precautions before you install motherboard componentsor change any motherboard settings.1. Unplug the power cord from the wall socket before touching any component.2. To avoid damaging the motherboard components due to static electricity,NEVER place your motherboard directly on the carpet or the like. Alsoremember to use a grounded wrist strap or touch a safety grounded objectbefore you handle components.3. Hold components by the edges and do not touch the ICs.4. Whenever you uninstall any component, place it on a grounded antistatic pad orin the bag that comes with the component.Before you install or remove any component, ensure that the power isswitched off or the power cord is detached from the power supply.Failure to do so may cause severe damage to the motherboard, peripherals,and/or components.13

2.3 Installation of Memory Modules (SO-DIMM)This motherboard provides two 260-pin DDR4 (Double Data Rate 4) SO-DIMMslots, and supports Dual Channel Memory Technology.1.2.3.For dual channel configuration, you always need to install identical (the same brand, speed, size and chip-type) DDR4 SO-DIMMpairs.It is unable to activate Dual Channel Memory Technology withonly one memory module installed.It is not allowed to install a DDR, DDR2 or DDR3 memory moduleinto a DDR4 slot; otherwise, this motherboard and SO-DIMM maybe damaged.The SO-DIMM only fits in one correct orientation. It will causepermanent damage to the motherboard and the SO-DIMM if you forcethe DIMM into the slot at incorrect orientation.14

2.4 Expansion Slots (MXM and M.2 Slots)There are 2 M.2 slots and 1 MXM slot on this motherboard.M.2 Slots: 1 x M.2 (KEY E, 2230) with PCIe x1 and USB 2.0 for Wireless.1 x M.2 (KEY M, 2242/2260/2280) with PCIe x4 and SATA3 for SSD.MXM slot: 1 x MXM slot.16

2.5 Jumpers SetupThe illustration shows how jumpers aresetup. When the jumper cap is placed onpins, the jumper is “Short”. If no jumper capis placed on pins, the jumper is “Open”. 2.7Driver Installation GuideTo install the drivers to your system, please insert the support CD to your opticaldrive first. Then, the drivers compatible to your system can be auto-detected andlisted on the support CD driver page. Please follow the order from top to bottom toinstall those required drivers. Therefore, the drivers you install can work properly.22

Chapter 3: UEFI SETUP UTILITY3.1 IntroductionThis section explains how to use the UEFI SETUP UTILITY to configure yoursystem. The UEFI chip on the motherboard stores the UEFI SETUP UTILITY. Youmay run the UEFI SETUP UTILITY when you start up the computer. Please press F2 or Del during the Power-On-Self-Test (POST) to enter the UEFI SETUPUTILITY, otherwise, POST will continue with its test routines.If you wish to enter the UEFI SETUP UTILITY after POST, restart the system bypressing Ctl Alt Delete , or by pressing the reset button on the systemchassis. You may also restart by turning the system off and then back on.Because the UEFI software is constantly being updated, thefollowing UEFI setup screens and descriptions are for referencepurpose only, and they may not exactly match what you see onyour screen.3.1.1 UEFI Menu BarThe top of the screen has a menu bar with the following selections:MainTo set up the system time/date informationAdvancedTo set up the advanced UEFI featuresH/W Monitor To display current hardware statusBootTo set up the default system device to locate and load theOperating SystemSecurityTo set up the security featuresExitTo exit the current screen or the UEFI SETUP UTILITYUse key or key to choose among the selections on the menubar, and then press Enter to get into the sub screen. You can also use themouse to click your required item.23

3.3 Advanced ScreenIn this section, you may set the configurations for the following items: CPU Configuration, Chipset Configuration, Storage Configuration, AMT Configuration, Super IOConfiguration, ACPI Configuration, USB Configuration and Trusted Computing.Setting wrong values in this section may causethe system to malfunction.Instant FlashInstant Flash is a UEFI flash utility embedded in Flash ROM. This convenient UEFI update tool allows you to update system UEFI without enteringoperating systems first like MS-DOS or Windows . Just launch this tooland save the new UEFI file to your USB flash drive, floppy disk or harddrive, then you can update your UEFI only in a few clicks without preparing an additional floppy diskette or other complicated flash utility. Pleasebe noted that the USB flash drive or hard drive must use FAT32/16/12 filesystem. If you execute Instant Flash utility, the utility will show the UEFIfiles and their respective information. Select the proper UEFI file to updateyour UEFI, and reboot your system after UEFI update process completes.25

3.3.1 CPU ConfigurationIntel Hyper Threading TechnologyIntel Hyper Threading Technology allows multiple threads to run on eachcore, so that the overall performance on threaded software is improved.Active Processor CoresSelect the number of cores to enable in each processor package.CPU C States SupportEnable CPU C States Support for power saving. It is recommended tokeep C3, C6 and C7 all enabled for better power saving.Intel SpeedStep TechnologyIntel SpeedStep technology is Intel’s new power saving technology. Processors can switch between multiple frequencies and voltage points to enable power saving. The default value is [Enabled]. Configuration options:[Enabled] and [Disabled]. If you install Windows OS and want to enablethis function, please set this item to [Enabled]. This item will be hidden ifthe current CPU does not support Intel SpeedStep technology.Please note that enabling this function may reduce CPU voltage and lead to systemstability or compatibility issues with some power supplies. Please set this item to[Disabled] if above issues occur.Intel Turbo Boost TechnologyUse this item to enable or disable Intel Turbo Boost Mode Technology.Turbo Boost Mode allows processor cores to run faster than marked frequency in specific conditions. The default value is [Enabled].26

CPU Thermal ThrottlingYou may select [Enabled] to enable CPU internal thermal controlmechanism to keep the CPU from overheating.No-Execute Memory ProtectionNo-Execution (NX) Memory Protection Technology is an enhancementto the IA-32 Intel Architecture. An IA-32 processor with “No Execute (NX)Memory Protection” can prevent data pages from being used by malicioussoftware to execute codes. This option will be hidden if the current CPUdoes not support No-Excute Memory Protection.Intel Virtualization TechnologyWhen this option is set to [Enabled], a VMM (Virtual Machine Architecture)can utilize the additional hardware capabilities provided by VanderpoolTechnology. This option will be hidden if the installed CPU does notsupport Intel Virtualization Technology.Hardware PrefetcherUse this item to turn on/off the MLC streamer prefetcher.Adjacent Cache Line PrefetchUse this item to turn on/off prefetching of adjacent cache lines.Software Guard Extensions (SGX)Intel SGX is a set of new CPU instructions that can be used by applications to set aside private regions of code and data.27

3.3.2 Chipset ConfigurationPrimary Graphics AdapterThis allows you to select the boot graphic adapter priority. The default value is [Onboard]. If you select [PCI Express], CPU integrated graphics willnot function under UEFI SETUP UTILITY and OS. If you select [Onboard],MXM graphics will not function under UEFI SETUP UTILITY.Top Of Lower Usable DramMaximum Value of TOLUD. Dynamic assignment would adjust TOLUD automatically based on largest MMIO length of installed graphic controller.VT-dUse this to enable or disable Intel VT-d technology (Intel VirtualizationTechnology for Directed I/O). The default value of this feature is [Disabled].PCIE1 Link SpeedSelect the link speed for PCIE1.Share MemoryConfigure the size of memory that is allocated to the integrated graphicsprocessor when the system boots up.IGPU Multi-MoniterSelect disable to disable the integrated graphics when an externalgraphics card is installed. Select enable to keep the integrated graphicsenabled at all times.Onboard LAN1Enable or disable the onboard network interface controller.Onboard LAN2Enable or disable the onboard network interface controller.28

Onboard HD AudioSelect [Auto], [Enabled] or [Disabled] for the onboard HD Audio feature. Ifyou select [Auto], the onboard HD Audio will be disabled when PCI SoundCard is plugged.Deep S5Mobile platforms support Deep S5 in DC only and desktop platforms support Deep S5 in AC only. The default value is [Disabled].eDP Panel BackLight BrightnessThe default value is [Level 5].Primary IGFX Boot DisplaySelect the Video Device which will be activated during POST.
