For compe ng Mathletes & Their Coaches. Students are assigned sea ng for the Sprint and Target rounds. The tableassignment is given to the coach on 4 index cards. The number on the cardcorresponds to each student’s table for that round. Individuals and alternateshave open sea ng at any table so designated for Individuals or Alternates. Thenumber in the circle on your packet corresponds to the table assignment for theteam round. Students are responsible to make sure their names are on each part of the wri enexam. Coaches, before handing in your student’s papers, please make sure allhave names. We will not be able to match up blank papers. Also, please make sureyour students label their papers with the words Alternate or Team Captain whenappropriate. At the end of the Team round, lunch will be served in the Commons. We ask thatall schools assist us in clean up of the Commons. Please dispose of any foodle overs or garbage.For Coaches. As this compe on is about the Mathletes, we ask that you remain in thecompe on room with your students and remain a en ve to their needs, interms of proctoring, distribu ng and collec ng papers, scrap paper, etc. This compe on is a Na onal compe on that takes place during the month ofMarch. There have been instances (luckily not in NY) where tests have been takenfrom the room and passed along to other states, prior to other compe ons. Forthis reason, we are ghtening our security on the distribu on of extra copies.Please do not take addi onal copies of the exam other than those needed todistribute to your students.For Volunteers. We are always in need of volunteers to help in the scoring room. If your schoolhas come with two or more coaches/parents, we ask that one of you assist ourscoring room team with the grading. In deciding which role to assume, pleaseconsider English fluency as the ac vity in the scoring room moves very quickly.For Spectators. We are asking that all parents, siblings or other spectators wait outside thecompe on room during the wri en por on of the compe on. Only individualswith a coaches wristband will be allowed in the compe on room while the examis in progress.For Mathletes, Coaches Volunteers and Spectators Alike. Please keep the noise level to a minimum during announcements and during thewri en exam. No photography or video recording of any of the Mathcounts booklets orCountdown round ques ons is allowed. You will be asked to leave thecompe on room if you are found taking pictures of the ques ons/booklets.6

About the MATHCOUNTSCompetition SeriesThe MATHCOUNTS Compe on Series is a na onal program that provides studentsthe opportunity to compete in live, in‐person contests against and alongside theirpeers. Created in 1983, it is the longest‐running MATHCOUNTS program and isopen to all sixth‐, seventh‐ and eighth‐grade students.The Compe on Series has 4 levels of compe on—school, chapter, state andna onal. Each level of compe on is comprised of 4 rounds—Sprint, Target, Teamand Countdown Round. Altogether the rounds are designed to take about 3 hoursto complete. Sprint Round: focuses on speed and accuracy. Students have 40 minutes to complete 30 math problems without a calculator.Target Round: focuses on problem‐solving and mathema cal reasoning.Students receive 4 pairs of problems and have 6 minutes to complete eachpair, assuming the use of a calculator.Team Round: focuses on problem‐solving and collabora on. Students have 20minutes to complete 10 math problems, assuming the use of a calculator. Onlythe 4 students on a school’s team can take this round officially.Countdown Round: focuses on speed and accuracy. Students have amaximum of 45 seconds per problem without a calculator.
