Receiving, Handling, and StorageReceivingEquipment PackagingFigure 2.1 Packaging of loose material for shipmentEvery package leaving the factory is plainly marked with thecase number, requisition number, and customer's ordernumber. If the equipment has been split for shipment, thesection numbers of the equipment enclosed in each shippingpackage are identified. NOTICE: To avoid the loss of any parts when unpacking, the contents of each container should be carefully checkedagainst the packing list before discarding the packingmaterial. The contents of each shipping package are listed on theMaster Packing List. In addition, this list includes the numberof the shipping crate in which miscellaneous parts needed toinstall and operate the equipment (such as hardware, contactlubricant, touch-up paint, breaker closing devices, etc.) arelocated. Normally, such devices are packed in a cardboardcarton and the carton secured in an empty switchgearcompartment (Figure 2.1). If such items are packed in aswitchgear section instead of a separate crate, the list willindicate the appropriate section number in which they arestored. Large items (such as breaker lifting devices anddollies used with indoor equipment) will always be shipped inseparate crates or cartons (Figure 2.2 and Figure 2.3). (1)(2)(3)Spare CompartmentCarton Containing Loose MaterialShipping Label Listing Contents of CartonFigure 2.2 Carton containing breaker lifting deviceInspecting for DamageAll equipment leaving the factory is carefully inspected andpacked by personnel experienced in the proper handling andpacking of electrical equipment. Upon receipt of anyequipment, immediately perform a visual inspection toascertain if any damage has been sustained in shipping or ifthere are any loose parts.Circuit breakers may be shipped separately in individualcontainers with the breaker in the open position. Circuitbreakers should be unpacked and visually inspected fordamage or loose parts as soon as possible after they havebeen received.Figure 2.3 Carton containing exhaust plenum componentsBe sure to inspect all devices mounted or packed insidecompartments of each section to see if any have beendislodged or damaged.Filing a ClaimIf any damage is evident, or indication of rough handling isvisible, file a claim for damage at once with the transportationcompany and notify the nearest General Electric CompanySales Office immediately. Information on damaged parts, part number, case number, requisition number, etc., shouldaccompany the claim.3 2016 General Electric. All rights reserved.Courtesy of NationalSwitchgear.com

DEH-41473HandlingAKD-20 AR / Entellisys AR Low-voltage SwitchgearSection 2. Receiving, Handling, and StorageFigure 2.4 Recommended lifting of indoor enclosureNOTICE: It is preferable to leave the shipping skids in placeunder the switchgear until it reaches its final location. Theequipment should be installed in its final location prior toinstalling the circuit breakers.Indoor Enclosure LiftingThe indoor switchgear sections are best handled by liftingwith a crane (Figure 2.4). Removable lifting plates areprovided, as standard equipment, on the top of eachswitchgear section. To preserve the external appearance ofthe equipment, it is suggested that the lifting plates be left inplace except where adjacent equipment must be boltedtogether, i.e. shipping splits, etc.Utilize four equal length cables and an overhead crane, eachwith a minimum load rating of twice the weight of theswitchgear.Estimated weights for shipping splits appear on the FrontView drawings.Example: Switchgear Section Weight 5,000 pounds. Thecrane and the four lift cables must have a minimum loadlifting capacity of 10,000 pounds.WARNING LABEL BY EACH LIFTING PLATEWARNING: The angle between the cables and the topof the equipment must be at least 45 degrees. If this is notpossible because of lack of headspace, spreader bars mustbe used. Also, lift cables with greater load capability maybe necessary, depending upon the angle between thecables and the crane hook.Connect a cable from the crane to the four lifting plateslocated on the top-front and rear of the switchgear (Figure2.4).Take up the slack in the lifting device very carefully andmanually stabilize the switchgear to prevent it from rotating.DANGER: Do not stand under switchgear while it isbeing moved. Serious injury may occur if the cables orlifting device fail.CAUTION: Gently lower the switchgear section onto thelevel site location. If the switchgear is roughly handled orjarred, it is possible to damage or misalign internalcomponents.WARNING: Be sure to remove all circuit breakers fromtheir compartments prior to lifting. Failure to remove thecircuit breakers prior to lifting will result in a center ofgravity toward the front of the switchgear assembly andmay require additional rigging and stabilization. 2016 General Electric. Receiving, Handling, and StorageRollersDEH-41473Figure 2.5 Positioning forklift tinesIf crane facilities are not available, the equipment may bemoved into position by means of construction rollers placedunder the shipping skids. The switchgear may be raisedenough for the placement of rollers by means of a forklift. There should never be less than four rollers under theequipment unless the lineup is less than five feet long. Useone roller for each 18 inches of equipment length.ForkliftsW

Business tourism trends Adventure travel Executives are increasingly attracted to the adventure venue business trip, which combines team building and strategic planning needs with adventure travel. One company, for example, designs adventure vacations for organizations designed to boost morale and develop leadership in corporate employees, while providing a "perk" in the way of a rafting trip .
