If, forsome reason, the system e-mails get caught in a SPAM filter for one e-mailaddress, you should receive the e-mail at a secondary e-mail address from adifferent service provider (e.g. Yahoo, AOL, etc.).If you want the Journal to be able to select you as a Reviewer, you can set theOption “Are you available as a Reviewer?” to ‘Yes’.If the Journal is using classifications, you may also select your own personalclassifications from their pre-defined list.At the bottom of the form you must enter a preferred username. Please take a good look to make sure everythingis spelled correctly, and that your e-mail address is correct.If all fields are correct, click on ‘Continue’. You have now completed the registrationprocess, and may quit out of your browser to check your e-mail for the password that willbe sent to you.Custom Registration QuestionsIf the journal has opted to require that users respond to registration questions thefollowing step will appear before you can complete the registration process. A box withan asterisk next to it indicates required information.Once you have provided the journal with the necessary information, click on theContinue button to proceed.Logging InOnce you have received a notification e-mail from the Journal Office containing yourusername and password, you can start to use the system.Go to the Journal’s EM website. From the main navigation menu at the top of the screenyou will see a set of menu options. Click on the tab labeled ‘Author Login’. This willdisplay the ‘Author Main Menu’ which will contain a list of functions that you have beengiven permission to perform in the system.Note: If you have multiple roles on the Journal, it is possible to set up a default loginrole. The option to do this can be found by clicking on the ‘Update My Information’ linkon the main navigation menu.Once you have successfully logged in, the Author Main Menu will display ‘IncompleteSubmissions’, ‘Submissions Waiting for Author’s Approval’ or ‘Submissions BeingProcessed’ links. These links are also referred to as ‘Folders’. From the main navigation menu at the top of the screen (see below) select‘Update My Information’.The ‘Update My Information’ page dialog boxes will be displayed:You will then be redirected to the Registration screens where you may look at all of theinformation currently available to the Journal about you and update where applicable.Once you have made your changes, click on the button labeled ‘Submit’. You will be prompted to submit all of the data that is associated withyour manuscript – this can include text, images and descriptions. Some of thisinformation will be mandatory; other parts will be optional. Each submission step isoutlined below.NOTE: If you begin to submit a manuscript and are unable to complete the submissionprocess because you run out of time or if you lose internet connection, your data will notbe lost! If this is the case, a warning box will appear if you click“Next”Once you meet the word or character requirement, you may click “Next” to proceed tothe next submission step.Select Article TypeThe first step of the EM manuscript submission process is selecting an Article Type,which is a required step in the submission process. Using the drop-down menu, select theArticle Type that best describes your manuscript. The Article Type designationdetermines which additional steps will be displayed. (For example, an Abstract may notbe part of a “Letter to the Editor”; therefore, that step won’t appear in the process if youchoose that article type.) Enter the title of your article inthe space provided. Click ‘Next’ when you are ready to proceed to the next step.Enter Short TitleIf the journal office has enabled this step, you will be required to enter a short title in atext box that appears directly below the Enter Article Title Box. Only you as the Corresponding Author will receive any e-mail notifications fromthe system. You may change the person designated as the Corresponding Author, but thisperson must be a registered Editorial Manager user, as he or she will need to becontacted throughout the submission process. Other Authors do not need to be registered with the system, but may be includedfor the purpose of appearing in the list of all authors. To add co-authors, clickAdd Author. The pop-up displays the add co-author console. After you have entered the other Authors’ information, the list ofauthors can be reordered by altering the Order column. The Author at the top of the list isautomatically designated as the First Author. The Corresponding Author does not have tobe listed first, they can appear anywhere in the list (including at the top of the list as theFirst Author).REMEMBER: Please note that you should not re-enter yourself in the list of authors.The person who begins the manuscript submission process is by default theCorresponding Author.To change the Corresponding Author, first enter the name of the CorrespondingAuthor in the First Name and Last Name textboxes and click the checkbox next to 'Pleaseselect if this is the corresponding author'. If the person you entered is not registered withEditorial Manager, you will be unable to designate him/her as the Corresponding Author.If this person is registered with Editorial Manager, you will be asked to enter his or herusername and password.WARNING: Please note that if you make this change, once you have finished submittingthe manuscript, you will no longer be considered the Corresponding Author and willnot be able to access the manuscript. This step may be optional, required, or hidden by theJournal Office, so the Author may not see it.Click ‘Next’ to proceed to the next submission step.Submit AbstractThe ‘Submit Abstract’ step allows the Author to type or copy and paste the manuscript’sAbstract into a textbox. This may be an optional, required, or hidden step.Click ‘Next’ to proceed to the next submission step.Select ClassificationsClick 'Select Document Classifications' to open a window containing a list of theclassifications used by the Journal. Classifications can be viewed as a predetermined listof keywords or terms associated with your manuscript. You may select as many classifications as isappropriate or permitted. To take away a selection from the right-hand column, click thecheckbox next to that term and click Remove. Click 'Submit' when you are done withthis task. This is may be an optional, required, or hidden step so that you do not see it.Click ‘Next’ to proceed to the next submission step.Additional InformationIf you encounter a submission step called ‘Additional Information’ please answer allthese questions from the Journal Office. The questions in this step are defined by theJournal and can be mandatory.Click ‘Next’ to proceed to the next submission step.Enter CommentsEnter any comments you would like to send to the Editorial Office. Author often copyand paste a cover letter into this text box. These comments will not appear in yourmanuscript. The request will be takenunder advisement by the Journal Office. Select the Editor of your choice by using thedrop-down menu and click ‘Next’ to proceed. This is may be an optional step for yourparticular Journal, so if you are not directed to Request an Editor, your manuscript will beassigned to the appropriate Editor(s) as determined by the Journal Staff.Select Region of Origin (Choose a Country)You can identify a geographic region (or country) of origin for your manuscript: amanuscript can have a Country of Origin designation that is different than the Author’scountry. This is referred to as the ‘Manuscript Geographic Region of Origin’.Select the country/region of your choice by using the drop-down menu and click ‘Next’to proceed. Wolters Kluwer Health Editorial Manager - Tutorial for AuthorsAttach Files – Uploading your Submission FilesNext, you will be asked to attach all of the files associated with your submission.Some Journals accept information offline or outside of their EM websites (e.g., e-mail,postal mail, or fax). If you are offered the option of selecting either ‘Online WebSystem’ or ‘Offline’, then click the appropriate button.For each Item you want to upload into the system: Choose the Item from a drop-down box. Manuscript, figures or tables may all beseparate Items in the drop-down box, as the Items listed may vary with each JournalOffice. Make sure to choose the correct one. Enter a Description in the text box (i.e., Figure 1, Table 2, etc.) Select the Delivery Method by which the Item will reach the Journal Office (online oroffline).The option of online or offline may not always be available since the Journal mayrequire the Item to be submitted online only.Confidential – Subject to change – Copyright 2010, Aries Systems Corporation – Page21

Wolters Kluwer Health Editorial Manager - Tutorial for Authors Locate the file on your hard drive using the ‘Browse’ button.Authors may attach files to their submission that have been ‘compressed’ (i.e. zipfiles). This allows Authors to upload several files at once, rather than having toupload one file at a time. It also enables a faster upload of a large single file. Thesystem will automatically ‘unpack’ or ‘un-zip’ the file, so that the individual file(s)can be attached to the submission. Authors may choose the file type and submissionitem for the “zipped” files when uploading a zip file. Click ‘Attach This File’ to upload the file (uploading may take several minutes forlarger files), and the following window should appear:For Items to be sent offline, please select the Item from the drop-down menu, click the‘Offline’ Delivery Method, and then click ‘Attach This File’. The Item will be added toyour list of submission files with the ‘Offline’ designation so that the Journal Office cananticipate the Item’s arrival through an alternate delivery method.Repeat this process until all Items in your submission have been specified. You can seeeverything you’ve attached in the list at the bottom.When all Items have been attached, click ‘Next’ at the bottom of the page.Confidential – Subject to change – Copyright 2010, Aries Systems Corporation – Page22

Wolters Kluwer Health Editorial Manager - Tutorial for AuthorsCompleting and Approving Your SubmissionOnce all your files are attached and you have clicked “Next”, you will see the summaryof the files you are sending to the Journal Office, and can make sure that everything youwant to include is listed. A message will prompt you to change the order of any alikesubmission files if appropriate. Chang the editable number in the Order column and thenclick Update File Order. When finished, click Next.The following page will display any missing data from your submission. Click Previousto return and complete any missing sections. Your manuscript will now be found in the ‘Submissions Waiting forAuthor’s Approval’ in your Author Main Menu. To complete the submission processyou’ll need to make one final approval before the Editorial Office receives yoursubmission (See Author PDF Approval-in the following section). Once you click “BuildPDF for my Approval”, an email will automatically be sent to you reminding you to login to Editorial Manager and approve your submission.WARNING: Unless you approve the submission, your submission is not complete and ithas not been sent to the journal.NOTE: If you begin to submit a manuscript and are unable to complete the submissionprocess because you run out of time or if you lose internet connection, your data will notbe lost! You can log back into Editorial Manager and access your unfinished submissionin the ‘Incomplete Submissions’ list on your Author Main Menu.Author PDF ApprovalYou must approve your submission before it is sent to the Journal Office. Click‘Submissions Waiting for Author’s Approval’ to bring up a table containing all of yourmanuscripts that are waiting to be viewed and approved (see below). Wolters Kluwer Health Editorial Manager - Tutorial for AuthorsNote: the actual building of your PDF may take a few minutes once you’ve uploadedyour files or as long as 30-60 minutes depending on the size of files, and outstandingPDF building activity. ‘View Submission’ allows you to view the PDF version of your submission (if youdo not have Adobe Acrobat installed on your system, simply click the ‘Get AcrobatReader’ icon at the bottom of the ‘Submissions Needing Approval’ menu and followthe instructions from Adobe’s web site). You may choose to make alterations to yoursubmission such as spelling corrections, description changes, extra graphics, etc. –you can do this by selecting ‘Edit Submission’. If there is a problem creating the PDFyou’re viewing, there will be a message in the PDF explaining what may have causedthe problem. You must view the PDF before you are able to approve it.Edit Submission will bring you to the same interface you used when you initiallysubmitted the manuscript. You can remove or add files at the Attach Files portion ofthe submission if you need to change anything. If you make changes, a new PDF filefor you to view and approve will be built. Once you are satisfied with yoursubmission and are ready to send it to the Journal Office, click ‘ApproveSubmission’.‘Remove Submission’- You may also choose to remove your manuscript from thesystem by selecting ‘Remove Submission’ (the Manuscript will never be received bythe Journal Office). You can always remove your submission and start over if youexperience problems.‘Approve Submission’- Once you have viewed the submission and are happy withthe results, click “Approve Submission” to send the submission to the journal.WARNING: Unless you approve the submission, your submission is not complete and ithas not been sent to the journal.Once you have approved your submission, you will automatically receive an emailacknowledgment and you will find the submission in the ‘Submissions Being Processed’list in your Author Main Menu.Confidential – Subject to change – Copyright 2010, Aries Systems Corporation – Page25
