A Study of Eye-tracking properties utilizing Tobii Eye tracker 5Muhammad Mezanur RahmanAbstractEye tracking is the process of determining the point where the viewer is looking at. Therefore, an eyetracker is a device which measures eye positions and eye movements. Over the recent few years, eyetrackers are being used in research in the area of medical technology, visual system, rehabilitationand in human-computer interaction. This study explores the application of eye tracking in watchingand rendering images on computer screen. In this research, Eye-tracker 5 developed by Tobii is usedwhich is a popular instrument among other eye trackers. Tobii Eye Tracker 5 includes a softwaredevelopment kit (SDK) enabling the creation of new research projects based on eye tracking and headmovement. This work measured eye tracking streaming data on digital image, and post process thegaze data to observe the gaze pattern of human eye. This thesis investigated the impact of blinkingusing subtle gaze direction (SGD) approach, which states that flickering on the computer screen inperipheral vision instead of foveal vision attracts human attention and as the viewer’s foeval visionattracted to that blinking point, flickering was stopped and, subsequently, performed flickering tothe next point of interest while the viewer is watching the previous point of interest. The worksuccessfully modeled flickering on the desired locations of an image. Furthermore, rendering todifferent images is also demonstrated in this work using entirely through eye movement. It isenvisaged that eye gazing based control technology would have tremendous applications in almost allareas of future technology particularly in assistive technology. Keywords Eye tracking, Eye movements, controllable application with eye tracker, SGD as blinkingiv

A Study of Eye-tracking properties utilizing Tobii Eye tracker 5Muhammad Mezanur Rahman1. IntroductionThis thesis provides a quick overview of eye tracking specifically employing Tobi Eye Tracker 5. Inaddition, this chapter will cover the project's objectives and deliverables. In particular, the thesisstructure, purpose of research, study techniques, and Sustainable Development Goals are includedin this thesis will be briefly investigated intensively. With eye trackers becoming commerciallyaccessible at a reduced cost and with increased accuracy, eye gaze interaction is becoming aprominent topic of this study.1.1. Purpose of the ProjectThe purpose of this research is to make a digital platform such as computer screen or display areamore interactive to human eye. Eye tracking technology will be used in the planned system, whichwould have a fully gaze driven interface. Eye gazing provides several inherent benefits to a system forusage in a public area, or any institution such as University of Gavle, in contrast to being a fresh andinteresting form of engagement. This project was created by the University of Gavle to address the COVID-19 issue when peopleutilize laptops and computers for their regular tasks. As a result, users may be able to overcome poorcleanliness and a lack of peripherals by employing an eye tracker. Therefore, subtle gaze direction (SGD) would be an excellent approach to guide a spectator arounda picture in a non-intrusive manner that still does not detract from the visual experience, as wouldregular prerendered user interface components. Researchers hope to develop a unique method forpeople to experience computer display by gaze involvement.1.2.BackgroundIn recent years, eye-tracking technology has emerged as a critical resource for improving the qualityof service and increasing the flexibility of people with disabilities or public who demand additionalintelligence [1]. Eye tracking appears to have been a terrific resource for conscious experience lastedfor approximately 50 years [2]. It has been used to look at a variety of topics, including the structures1

A Study of Eye-tracking properties utilizing Tobii Eye tracker 5Muhammad Mezanur Rahmanof fascinations and strabismus when studying the subject, stress, and tiredness in various types ofaircraft, and the performance of visual advertisements, to mention a few [3].Moreover, since the development of high-quality video-based eye-trackers, eye tracking has beenhighly relevant. Also, eye tracking investigations used to necessitate intrusive and unpleasantprocedures like contact lens search probes [4] or electro-oculography [5]. Besides, earlier eyetracking approaches, which include scleral coils [6] and the dual Purkinje eye-tracker [7], give betterdata performance in terms of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) [8], but they are significantly more difficultto utilize with illnesses, newborns, disabled, and even unskilled observers and controllers [6], [7],[8], [9].Unfortunately, eye tracking research has not been as widely employed as it once was. It hasmaintained a fascinating research instrument, but it never really received the kind of recognition itneeds [10]. Those study presents a thorough examination of the issues that may stymie greateradoption of eye tracking approaches, including the constraints and problems connected with eyetracking gear and software [11], as well as the quantity, extraction, and comprehension of the dataanalysis [3], [10], [12]. Example of eye tracking figure 1.Figure 1: Eye tracker [13]An eye-tracker is a sensitive instrument that utilizes prediction schemes and optical sensors to collectextremely accurate data on eye position, eye movements [14], [15], [16], [17] and gaze direction[18], [19]. In addition to experimental objectives, eye motions are directly usable in practical humancomputer applications for assessment [20], [21], such as gaming [22] or human activity monitoring2

A Study of Eye-tracking properties utilizing Tobii Eye tracker 5Muhammad Mezanur Rahman[23]. Regarding 3D virtual reality applications, tracking facial movements and generating picturematerial in a gaze-contingent approach might be essential [24], [25].The current study investigates the abilities of the Tobii Eye Tracking 5 Controller, a low-cost, imagebased eye tracking device designed for application domains by Tobii. Also, Tobii promises that thisinnovative technology is designed for eye gaze contact with a realistic consumer experience whichallows individuals to sit, stand, and move about with some freedom. The Tobii Eye Tracker 5 mayuse across both desktops and laptops, providing instant access and convenience. Furthermore, theeye tracker is promoted as not needing frequent re-calibrations and therefore being capable of dealingwith a wide range of physiological parameters including eye color, ethnicities, consequencesassociated, and maturity, all while being unaffected by head motions or fluctuating illuminancethroughout periods. In this study, researchers propose an exhaustive survey of the device's features and technicalrequirements in terms of accuracy and precision, delay, and sampled regularity. To improve thedevice's usefulness for research, researchers are developing and making accessible an open-sourceEye tracker core software, Electron modules, node Js, virtual studio 2019, git bash, tableau desktop, and MATLAB 2021b that may be used to interact with the eye tracker 5. Considering potentialinfluence of innovative low-cost commercial solutions on application areas, including the extensiveusage of sensor eye tracking technique, motivated us to incorporate all processes used to evaluate theTobii Eye Tracker 5, that could be simply transferred to other eye tracking devices, within thecreated Toolkit. The capacity of the Tobii Eye Tracker 5 to offer an assessment of the eye gazeindependently for the left and right eyes, which is not afforded by the eye-tribe gadget, is an intriguingcapability. Therefore, Authors created a calibration technique that can be done both binocularly andmonocularly with each eye to allow users to fully utilize the Tobii Eye Tracker 5 Operator'scapabilities, and we presented an analysis of the discrepancies between the monocular and binocularcalibration procedures.1.3.Goals and DeliverablesThe major purpose of the thesis is to have a complete set of produced resources and information tobe able to recreate the testing approach and include it into design methods for future projects atinstitutions, and digital displays. The thesis will include detailed information on eye tracking usingthe Tobi Eye Tracker as well as the test technique for precise Blinking position accuracy of eyeballs.Users will be shown different images Blinking based on their interest in their chosen digital image inthe results section. Therefore, Blinking will be used to capture the audience's attention. Moreover, COVID-19, sanitation concerns, and a restriction of connectivity can all limits theimplementation of this initiative, which is critical for any organization or institution.3

TheoryIn this chapter, we will look at some relevant research which might help us develop our program. We proceed by investigating the psychology and other natural occurrences which impact imagepleasure. We would then investigate at a certain unique technological application in the digital imageof the Exoskeleton lab, where researchers were examining industrial works using Eksovest and LegX. We will examine the present status of eye-gaze engagement. Eventually, we would examineadaptations and implications of research on the issue of subtle gaze direction. Also write about tobiieye tracker and working function.2.1. Tobii eye tracker 5Tobii eye tracker 5 is intended for use in gaming, software development, and perhaps otherapplications. Tobii ServiceSDK allows you to connect with a Tobii eye tracker, launch an Electron application, and gather andtransfer x, y, and timestamp coordinates. Moreover, HTML and JavaScript are used to create theElectron system's main window. Also, Electron applications are made up of two processes: a corecontrol process and a render process for rendering pages. Inter-Process Communication (IPC) allowsthe processes to communicate with one another. Therefore, Tobii Service oversees starting thecalibration procedure and providing the eye movement data to the JavaScript application. [28], [29].2.2.Viewing Digital ImagesThis study presented a five-stage theoretical information processing model for defining aestheticexperiences: perception, explicit categorization, implicit classification, cognitive mastery, andassessment. The model illustrates the cognitive processes that may occur when a person is exposedto digital image until they develop a verdict.6

A Study of Eye-tracking properties utilizing Tobii Eye tracker 5Muhammad Mezanur RahmanFurthermore, this framework describes elements that may impact an organism's appraisal of a sensoryappreciation, such as pre-classification of the item, past experiences, field particular knowledge, andpersonal preferences. The processing model's output consists of two separate outputs. One of thoseis aesthetically evaluation, which is the consequence of higher-level cognitive appraisal. The secondtype of emotion is esthetical Sentimentality.According to previous research, getting a high intellectual efficiency while examining an imageinstallation resulted in a pleasant sensory appreciation. Moreover, adding or removing importantcontextual information correlates with gains or reductions in cognitive fluency. Researchers willinvestigate the impact of context, in the form of prior or given knowledge, on aesthetic judgmentsfurther. The influence of specialized knowledge on conceptual readability of a designer statement isinvestigated. The outcomes were graded based on the two knowledge feelings: excitement anduncertainty. The aesthetic fluency scale was used to assess proficiency. Besides, it is indeed a quantitybased on a fundamental precept of aesthetic creations.Attendees may peruse images and interact to digital displays while at residence to expand theireducation. While the notion of gaze-based information processing is contemporary, investigation intogaze characteristics dates all the way back further than a generation. Many subsequent investigationswere built on the notions of saccades and fixations. Outside of text reading, research is beingperformed into patterns of fixations and saccades in a variety of fields. The perception of images andthe psychology underlying it is an appropriate topic for the goal of eye tracking investigations. Withthe introduction of computerized eye trackers, there has been an ongoing investigation and aspectsof human gazing patterns during viewing digital image [30].With the emergence of eye trackers for consumers such as the Tobii eye tracker 5 and the Eye Tribe, the accuracy of eye tracking technology has risen over the years. Both are frequently designed to beused in conjunction with standard input techniques. Completely gaze-controlled user interfaces arestill a very new object of research. In this research article, we will need to be totally controlled bygaze interaction rather than mouse or touch screen input. We will review previous research todetermine the viability of eye-gaze as a full substitute for standard input techniques [31].The between-subjects research contrasted eye gaze interaction with mouse input [32]. According tothe findings, gaze engagement created higher subjective immersion and was more appealing toparticipants. Moreover, the mouse, on the other hand, was the favored means of engagement, allowing participants to solve issues more quickly. Furthermore, sight selection was more incorrectthan mouse selection. There appears to be a threshold, proportional to the complexity of the requiredinteraction, beyond which gaze interaction ceases to be as simple to use as mouse input; however, advances in the accuracy and availability of eye trackers have prompted research into moresophisticated interfaces as well as design standards associated with gaze interaction [32], [33], [34],[35].7

A Study of Eye-tracking properties utilizing Tobii Eye tracker 52.3.Muhammad Mezanur RahmanBlinking for Subtle Gaze Direction (SGD)It was discovered that individuals in the SGD group performed statistically much better when it cameto viewing the panels in the intended order. Furthermore, as seen by the heatmaps, viewers tendedto be more concentrated on the panel sections [30]. This study is relevant to our project since itdemonstrated the usage of SGD as a visual navigation tool on digital image. Furthermore, itdemonstrates that SGD remains efficient in directing the viewer's focus in the setting of digital imagewith numerous visual distractions [35], [36], [37].The research looks at the discrepancies between directing novices along the survey route recordedby the expert and leading users over the critical locations identified by the expert. There have beenno noticeable benefits between these discovered [38], [39], [40].This method [41] gives the facility of understanding of blinking between fovea and periphery vision.sothat viewer see blinking point of peripheral gaze point [41].3. Methods and ProcessesIn this chapter, we will describe the process of formulating and executing a digital system. In thisportion, we will go through the hardware platform that was used on the system during design andanalysis. In the Laboratory of University of Gavle, we will also explore the system's planned finalhardware configuration extensively, utilizing suitable sketches and accurate details relevant toconnectivity aspects. We proposed Figure 8. Furthermore, demonstrate when to use the Tobii eyetracker 5 to operate this software.8
