WARNING indicates that death or severe personal injury may result if proper precautions are not taken. CAUTION with a safety alert symbol, indicates that minor personal injury can result if proper precautions are not taken. CAUTION without a safety alert symbol, indicates that property damage can result if proper precautions are not taken. NOTICE indicates that an unintended result or situation can occur if the relevant information is not taken into account. If more than one degree of danger is present, the warning notice representing the highest degree of danger will be used. A notice warning of injury to persons with a safety alert symbol may also include a warning relating to property damage. Safety notes 2.4 Lithium batteries 2.4 Lithium batteries Lithium batteries are primary power sources with high energy content designed to represent the highest possible degree of safety. WARNING Potential hazard Lithium batteries may present a potential hazard if they are abused electrically or mechanically. Observe the following precautions when handling and using lithium batteries: – Do not short-circuit, recharge or connect with false polarity. – Do not expose to temperature beyond the specified temperature range or incinerate the battery. – Do not crush, puncture or open cells or disassemble battery packs. – Do not weld or solder to the battery’s body. – Do not expose contents to water. 2.5 Rechargeable battery The GSM/GPRS module is supplied with a rechargeable battery as energy buffer. This battery is charged automatically. Allow the battery to be fully charged (up to five hours) before the first logon to the GSM network. WARNING Risk of explosion Do NOT expose the battery to fire or try to recharge it using an external power source. 2.6 Installation in hazardous area WARNING NOT allowed for use in hazardous areas! Equipment used in hazardous areas must be Ex-approved and marked accordingly! This device is NOT approved for use in hazardous areas! Description 3.1 3 OPC software application An OPC server is a software application that acts as an API (Application Programming Interface) or protocol converter. When connected to a device (e.g. a PLC, DCS or an RTU) or a data source (e.g. a database or a user interface), the OPC server will transform the data into a standard-based OPC format. OPC-compliant applications e.g. an HMI (Human Machine Interface), historical data spreadsheet, trending application, can connect to the OPC server and use it to read device data. The protocol interconnects field equipment such as sensors, actuators, and controllers and is widely used in both process and manufacturing automation. OPC defines a common, high-performance interface that facilitates reuse of data via HMI, SCADA control, and custom applications. 3.2 GSM/GPRS information transmission The GSM/GPRS module transmits information using GSM or GPRS networks. Manual or automatic network selection is possible. Communication with operators takes place via SMS or email. SMS can be sent to and from predefined mobile phone numbers, whereas emails can be sent only from the GSM/GPRS module with a CSV file attachment to predefined email accounts. The retrieved data are stored in the internal memory of the GSM/GPRS module until it is transmitted. In case of power failure the collected data remains stored in the memory. The GSM/GPRS module uses the unique power management program to measure the battery consumption ensuring very accurate values of the remaining battery lifetime.
