COVID UPDATE NEW STUFF STAY CONNECTED. Are you bored yet? It doesn't take long before we all start experiencing the signs of boredom, anxiety and frustration from being isolated and disrupting normal human interaction. If that sounds like you and your scouts, it's time to start looking at some options. When researching the web, there are many articles and posts about video conferencing. For most IT professionals, virtual office (VO) or video conferencing is nothing new. Think of it as group calling with video. The more advanced software solutions also include the ability to host screen sharing allowing the group to see one person’s desktop. With safety in mind and based on guidance from national health officials, National Statement, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is strongly advising that in-person meetings, activities, events and gatherings of 10 or more people be suspended through the end of March. Please also follow any restrictions outlined by your state and local health department or other state and local authorities. This applies to youth and adults out of an abundance of caution. Guidelines from BSA COVID 19 Q&A Take a minute to review a few of the suggested web conferencing options below to try and see what works best for your unit(s). Keep in mind that some options have limited functionality and a higher learning curve but have the ability to share voice and video. In addition, there are some links for you to continue Scouting at home with your Scout. NEW SKC WEBSITE Simon Kenton Council will launch a new website on April 1 (no fooling), dedicated to helping you cope with the COVID 19 pandemic. It will contain information and resources to keep you and your Scouts engaged. Watch for information via email or on social media. SKC Facebook page house or backyard and share a photo of it. Contest ends April 6. Prizes to be announced April 13. Information JAMBOREE ON THE INTERNET COMING APRIL 3-5 A Special Edition of JOTI will help bring Scouting to the homes of young people everywhere! More Information Part of Scouting’s great success over the past 113 years has been its enduring ability to adapt and respond to the changing needs of communities at every level. CAMP AT HOME CONTEST SKC is sponsoring a Camp at Home Contest. Contestants are asked to create a campsite at home – either in the VIDEO CONFERENCING ARTICLES AND SCOUTING OPTIONS Scouting Remotely Scouting @home with Twitter On-Line Conferencing for Virtual Meetings Boards of Review Through Videoconferencing Advancement During Covid 19 Fifty Merit Badges to Complete at Home Fun Projects For Kids at Home ADVANCEMENT UPDATES DUE TO COVID 19 The National BSA has posted Questions & Answers to manage Scouting advancement in light of the directives to cancel all in person contact. WHAT'S SO SPECIAL ABOUT DAY CAMP? Being at Day Camp is one of the highlights of a Cub Scout's year. But not all families are familiar with the opportunities and FUN that Day Camp offers. Your Pack can arrange for an experienced team of Day Campers to come to a meeting (pack meeting, parent meeting, Blue & Gold Banquet) and tell everyone about the awesome adventures planned for 2020. Email Buckeye Day Camp to schedule. HOW DOES DAY CAMP HELP YOUR PACK? Helps packs succeed. Strengthens the den/pack organization for better year-round operation. Provides continuation of the Cub Scout program during the summer and the opportunity for units to earn the National Summertime Pack Award, Outdoor Activity Award, and to work toward qualifying for the Journey to Excellence. Offers character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness. Meets individual needs and interests by offering a meaningful and educational Scouting program. Helps to recruit new Scouts in the den and pack during the summer. Provides a method of recruiting, training and inspiring present and future Cub Scout leadership. Promotes fun and adventure with a purpose. OVERCOMING CHALLENGES TO ATTENDING DAY CAMP COST - Camperships are available until March 31 but may be considered at any time. Fundraising - some packs build day camp into their popcorn incentives. Other fundraisers could be considered. TRANSPORTATION - Form carpools among the members of your den and/or pack. Assign a day camp transportation chair to organize carpools. Reach out to other packs in your area to form carpools. Discuss possibility of van/bus rental that could be a shared expense for your group. ADULT PARTICIPANTS - many people can’t get a week off work to do day camp. Organize workpools with your den or pack. The same Adult Participant does not need to attend every day. Example: if your den has five scouts, each parent takes one day. Adult participants do not need to be parents! Any caring adult in a scout’s life may attend as an Adult Participant: Grandparents, aunts and uncles, siblings aged 21 , nannies, babysitters, and other caregivers are welcome. Consider reaching out to your chartered organization for help! Many churches have entire congregations of retired people who would love the opportunity to get to know your scouts and spend a day at camp. (They must be willing to take the Youth Protection Training.) Offer to help behind the scenes - duties include promoting day camp, getting information out to parents in a timely manner, including medical forms, what to bring, how to register, and campership information, picking up tee shirts and setting up carpools. DATE DOESN’T WORK - Attend another camp! You can sign up for any camp that works for you! DAY CAMP IS A GROUP EFFORT - Your council day camp is not run by “those council folks,” or “They and Them.” Putting a day camp together is a team effort, coordinated by volunteers, and everyone’s help is wanted and needed! Whether it’s sharing information with your pack, helping to transport and shepherd the campers, or even joining as a member of the staff, the most successful day camps are a “We and Us” activity

We will fellowship and discuss how we can best serve, each other and our communities, in this time. Plans will be made for Call Out, a service project, ritual training, and more. We will help Ordeal members prepare for Brotherhood. We will have a game but you are on your own for snacks! All OA members are encouraged to attend & Troop OA Representatives are expected. Connect to the meeting via your computer or mobile device at https://osu.zoom.us/j/739191404 or call at 312 626 6799 US and use Meeting ID: 739 191 404. We have four Ordeal/Brotherhood weekends this year: May 15-17 at Camp Falling Rock, July 24-26 at Camp Oyo, August 21-23 at Camp Chief Logan, September 11-13 at Camp Lazarus. WE NEED HELP! It takes many members to put on a successful Ordeal weekend. We need people to help in the kitchen, as service crew leaders and elangomats, on the ritual team, and more. If you haven’t been to an Ordeal since you were inducted, you are really missing out. The experience is very different for members: you eat great food all weekend, choose your own service and get to meet (and talk all day to) fellow Arrowmen from troops around our council. Serving as an elangomat for our candidates is a great opportunity to get involved and serve your fellow scouts. If you are not a Brotherhood member, you can become one at any of the Ordeal weekends (10 months or more after your Ordeal) too. You will learn more about the Order of the Arrow and get to see the best ceremony it has to offer.
