Get to Know EmoryEmory University began as Emory College in 1836in Oxford, Georgia, 40 miles east of Atlanta. Inthe early 1900s, the Methodist Church sought tocreate a major university in the American South andAsa Candler, founder of The Coca-Cola Company,donated 1 million and 75 acres so that EmoryCollege could move to Atlanta to becomeEmory University.Today Emory University, located in Atlanta,Georgia, is a top-ranked teaching and researchinstitution, with the largest and most comprehensivehealth care system in the state. Emory houses twooutstanding liberal arts colleges as well as graduateand professional schools of arts and sciences,business, law, medicine, nursing, public health, andtheology. For more information on Emory’s policy on paid time off, please visit http://emory.hr.emory.edu.Holidays New Years Eve Labor DayEmory paid holidaysare as follows: New Years Day Thanksgiving Martin LutherKing Jr.’s Birthday Day afterThanksgiving Memorial Day Christmas Eve Independence Day ChristmasNOTE: In addition to these holidays, employees who are eligible forpaid holidays will be eligible for one or two floating holidays per year,depending on their date of employment. Due to operational needs,some employees must work on university holidays. Informationregarding work performed on holidays can be found in the HolidayPremium Policy. Consideration must also be given to employeeswishing to take leave for religious observances not recognized asuniversity holidays.Vacation DaysMost employees working over 20 hours per week are eligible to accrue paid vacation leave. Staff employeesaccrue vacation leave on a biweekly or monthly basis based on years of service. Principal employees will becredited with annual vacation days each September.
