4Power Supply, 120/240 VAC or 125 VDC, 40 Watt: IC695PSA040Power Supply IC695PSA040 is a 40-Watt supplythat operates from an input voltage source in therange of 85 to 264 VAC or 100 VDC to 300 VDC.POWERThis power supply provides three outputs:P/S FAULT 5.1 VDC output,OVERLOAD 24 VDC relay output that can be used topower circuits on Output Relay modules. 3.3 VDC. This output is used internally byRX3i modules with IC695 catalog numbers.OVERTEMPPower Supply40W ACCautionOnly one IC695PSA040 can be used in aPACSystems RX3i (IC695 catalog number)Universal Backplane. This Power Supply cannot beused with other RX3i power supplies in redundantor increased capacity modes. Power Supplyversion IC695PSA040C and before may causeequipment damage if inadvertently installed in thesame backplane as another RX3i power supply. If the number of modules required exceeds thecapacity of the Power Supply, the additionalmodules must be installed in Expansion or Remotebackplanes.PACSystems RX3iThe Power Supply indicates when an internal faultoccurs so the CPU can detect loss of power or logthe appropriate fault code.GFK-2314CChapter 4 Power Supplies4-11

4LEDsFour LEDs on the Power Supply indicate: PO W ERPower (Green/Amber). When this LED isgreen, it indicates power is being suppliedto the backplane. When this LED is amber, power is applied to the Power Supply butthe Power Supply switch is off.P/S F AUL TOV E RT E MPOV E RL O ADP/S Fault (Red). When this LED is lit, itindicates the Power Supply has failed andis no longer supplying sufficient voltage tothe backplane.ONOFFINPUT120/240 VAC 125 VDCOver Temperature (Amber). When this LEDis lit, it indicates the Power Supply is nearor exceeding its maximum operatingtemperature.Overload (Amber). When this LED is lit, itindicates the Power Supply is near orexceeding its maximum output capability onat least one of its outputs. The CPU Fault Table shows a fault if anyOvertemperature, Overload, or P/S Faultoccurs.PSA04050/60 HZ 70 WWIRE AWG# 14-22TORQUE 4.4 in-lb(0.5 N-m)75 DEG. Peak inrush current may be higher for shorter durations.WarningThe power supply’s door must be closed. During normal operation with an ACpower source either 120 VAC or 240 VAC is present on the AC Power Supply. Thedoor protects against accidental shock hazard that could cause severe or fatal injuryto personnel.GFK-2314CChapter 4 Power Supplies4-13

4Thermal DeratingsThe maximum output power for Power Supply PSA040 depends on the ambient temperature, asshown below. 4Overcurrent ProtectionThe 5.1 VDC output is electronically limited to 7 Amps. The 3.3 VDC output is limited to 10Amps. If an overload (including short circuits) occurs, it is sensed internally and the PowerSupply shuts down. The Power Supply continually tries to restart until the overload condition isremoved. An internal, non-repairable, fuse in the input line is provided as a backup. The PowerSupply usually shuts down before the fuse blows. The fuse also protects against internal supplyfaults The CPU Fault Table shows a fault if any Overtemperature, Overload, or P/S Faultoccurs. There is no additional indication if the Power Supply fuse blowsField Wiring: IC695PSA040Power Source and Ground ConnectionsThe wires from the power source and groundconnect to the terminals on the Power Supply asshown at right. Each terminal accepts one AWG14 to AWG 22 wire. L1To additionalunits L1N/- L2N/To additionalunits- L2WarningIf the same external AC power source is used toprovide power to two or more RX3i power supplies inthe system, connection polarity must be identical ateach power supply. A resulting difference in potentialcan injure personnel or cause damage to equipment. Also, each backplane must be connected to acommon system ground.Keep as short aspossible. Connectdirectly tomounting panel.Input Overvoltage ProtectionThe bottom terminal is normally connected toframe ground with a user-installed jumper asshown lower right. If overvoltage protection isnot required or is supplied upstream, no jumperis needed. To Hi-pot test this supply, overvoltage protectionmust be disabled during the test by removing thejumper. Re-enable overvoltage protection aftertesting by reinstalling the jumper. / L1- / N / L2Jumper strapconnectsovervoltageprotectiondevices toframe groundFrameGroundScrewTerminalsIn systems with a floating neutral input (the neutral line is not referenced to Protective EarthGround), this jumper must NOT be installed. In addition, in a floating neutral system, voltagesurge protection devices such as MOVs must be installed from L1 to earth ground, and from L2(Neutral) to earth ground.GFK-2314CChapter 4 Power Supplies4-15
