ENChecking the Radio SystemCAUTION: Always keep all body parts, hair and dangling or loose items away froma spinning propeller, as these could becomeentangled.NOTICE: Always power on the transmitter beforepowering on the ESC. Always power off the ESCbefore powering off the transmitter. Never transportthe boat with the battery connected to the ESC.1. Turn the transmitter throttle and steering trim knobsto the 10 o’clock position.left2. Power on the transmitter.3. Connect a fully charged battery to the ESC.4. Power on the ESC. The boat will beep 3 times.5. Ensure the rudder moves in the proper directionwhen the steering wheel is moved left or right.6. Pull the throttle to full, then return the throttle toneutral, ensuring the propeller turns counterclockwise. The auto-sensing voltage cutoff will also engage whenthe ESC detects a low battery charge. Release thethrottle and recharge the In the unlikely event that the radio connection is lostduring use (possibly due to low transmitter batteriesor distance between the receiver and transmitter), thereceiver will hold the rudder at the last command withno throttle. If the receiver is powered on before powering on thetransmitter, the receiver will enter this failsafe mode. When the transmitter is powered on, normal control isresumed.Binding is the process of programming the receiver torecognize the GUID (Globally Unique Identifier) code of asingle specific transmitter. The included transmitter andreceiver are bound at the factory. If you need to rebind, follow the instructions below.1. Power off the transmitter and ESC.2. Connect a fully charged batterypack to the ESC.3. Press and hold the bind button whilepowering up the ESC. After 2 secondsthe ESC will be in bind mode.4. Release the bind button and poweron transmitter.5. Binding is complete when you hearthree beeps from the ESC.You must rebind when binding thereceiver to a different transmitter.NOTICE: Do not attempt to bind the transmitterand receiver if there are other compatibletransmitters in bind mode within 400 feet. Doing somay result in unexpected binding.Trim Tab AdjustmentEnsure the trim tab panels are parallel to the bottomof the Impulse hull and a few degrees down on theBlackjack hull. You may desire to bend the trim tabs forwind and water conditions. To adjust the angle of the trimtabs, use a large pair of pliers to bend the tabs. This mustbe done carefully so that you do not damage the hull.Impulse 9 Blackjack 97

ENTesting your Boat in the Water1. Carefully place the boat in the water.2. Operate the boat at slow speeds near the shoreline.Avoid objects in the water at all times.3. Once you are comfortable operating the boat atslow speeds, it is safe to operate the boat fartherfrom the shore.Tip: If you are using too much steering trim on yourtransmitter to make the boat drive straight, returnthe trim to neutral and mechanically center the rudder. To do this, carefully bend the linkage a small amount.4. When the boat is moving forward, ensure water flowsout of the coolant outlet on the boat. If water doesnot flow out of this outlet, remove any blockage fromthe rear inlet and coolant system or the motor mayoverheat.5. Bring the boat back to shore when you noticethe boat starting to lose speed.6. Power off the ESC and disconnect the battery pack.7. Allow the motor, ESC and battery pack to cool beforecharging the batteries or operating the boat again.NOTICE: Do not turn off the transmitter firstor the receiver may pick up stray signals andrun out of control.Boating TipsAvoid boating near other watercraft, stationary objects, waves, wakes and other rapidly moving water, wildlife, floating debris or overhanging trees. You should also becareful to avoid boating in areas where there are manypeople, such as swimming areas, park waterways orfishing areas. Consult local laws and ordinances beforechoosing a location to pilot your boat.Maximum speeds are only achieved when the waterconditions are smooth and there is little wind. A sharpturn, wind or waves can turn over a boat when it ismoving quickly. Always pilot your boat for the wind andwater conditions so that the boat does not turn over. When running your boat for the first time, werecommend calm wind and water conditions so thatyou can learn how the boat responds to your control. When making turns, decrease the throttle to reduce theprobability of flipping the boat over.Never operate your boat in less than 3 inches (8 cm) ofwater.NOTICE: When running at full speed in choppywaters, the prop may exit and re-enter the waterrepeatedly and very quickly, subjecting the propellerto some stress. Frequent stress may damagethe propeller.CAUTION: Do not operate this product in vinylcovered or inflatable pools. Sharp componentsmay cause damage to these materials.CAUTION: Never retrieve your boat fromthe water in extreme temperatures, turbulenceor without supervision.Motor CareSeat the motor brushes by driving smoothly on calmwaters during use of the first battery charge.8Avoid potential overheating conditions, such as blockagein the cooling tubes, driving against heavy resistance ordebris in the drive system.Impulse 9 Blackjack 9

ENWhen you are Finished1. Power off the ESC.2. Disconnect the battery.1233. Power off the transmitter.4. Remove the battery fromthe boat.Tip: Always store the boatopen (without the hatch sealed)or moisture may allow moldand mildew to grow in the boat.4MaintenanceAlways replace the driveshaft when it is damaged orshows visible wear or injury and damage may result.Lubricating the shaft is vital to the life of the drivetrain. The lubricant also acts as a water seal, keeping waterfrom entering the hull through the stuffing tube.2. Remove the driveshaft by sliding it out of thestuffing tube. Wipe lubricant and material fromthe shaft. Lubricate the full length of the shaftassembly up to the drive dog using marinegrease (PRB0101 or PRB0100).Lubricate the shaft and all moving parts after every 2–3hours of operation. Always replace any parts that showvisible wear or damage.1. Loosen the setscrew holding the driveshaft in themotor coupling and remove the driveshaft from theback of the boat.Tip: Remove the nut, screw, pin and rudderfrom the rudder mount to remove the driveshaftmore easily.Tip: Use paper or cloth to touch thedriveshaft.3. Carefully reinstall the driveshaft, ensuring thatthere is a 1–2mm gap between the prop strut andthe drive dog.4. Apply threadlock to the coupling setscrew and donot over tighten. Threadlock will help prevent thedriveshaft from loosening during use.NOTICE: Running the boat in saltwater couldcause some parts to corrode. If you run the boatin saltwater, rinse it thoroughly in freshwaterafter each use and lubricate the drive system.NOTICE: Because of its corrosive effects, running RC boats in saltwater is at thediscretion of the modeler.Impulse 9 Blackjack 99

ENRudder Service1. Remove the nut, screw, breakaway pin and rudderfrom the mount.Important: The pin is designed to break in caseof rudder impact. If broken, replace the pin witha wood pin (such as a toothpick).2. Assemble in reverse order.Important: Do not over tighten the rudder screw. The rudder must be allowed to rotate with someresistance in order to prevent damage to the rudderand/or hull if the rudder comes in contact with anobject.Propeller Service1. If necessary, use a tool to loosen and tightenthe nut.2. Remove the nut and propeller from thedriveshaft.3. Assemble in reverse order. Correctly align thepropeller with the drive dog on the driveshaft.ChecklistsBefore BoatingAfter Boating Install fully charged batteries in your boat andtransmitter Connect the boat’s battery to the ESCAlways power off the receiver before powering offthe transmitter to maintain control of the boat andto retain transmitter binding Make sure the boat is bound to the transmitter(otherwise, bind the boat to the transmitter usingthe included binding instructions) Disconnect the battery from the receiver and removethe battery from the boat Make sure all linkages move freely on the boat Ensure the motor mount is secured to the hull so t
