SUMMARY OF OCTOBER 25 AND NOVEMBER 8, 2018 MEETINGSCB Middle Schools Renovation PlanningATTENDING: Core Team members: Dr. Corey Vorthmann, Julie Smith, Staci Pettit, Diane Ostrowski,Dave Fringer, Roger Slosson, Alex Turner, Ken Kirkpatrick, Dr. Murillo, Guests: Kim Kazmierczak,Kerry NewmanThe purpose of the meeting was to confirm specifications for the carpet, millwork, equipment needs andoccupancy requirements for classroom and other spaces throughout the renovated school buildings,including elective classrooms.Administration / Health / Student Services Areas:Reception Areao Millwork or Furnishings? Millwork made of durable, long-lasting material requested. Needs tobe ADA accessible. Prefer solid surface at the reception countertopo Number of staff to accommodate? 2 at front counter.o Number of waiting chairs? 4-6 waiting chairs.Workroom needso Copiers- (1) standard size copier. (1) copier in each learning team.o Millwork-yes, upper and lower cabinets.o Layout / Work Island or space-need space for laminator.o Teacher Mailboxes? Number? 125 mailboxes.Elective Classrooms:General Item: District would like for all music rooms to have a strobe or other visual que thatalerts the room occupants when an announcement is being delivered over the school-wide PAand/or alarm systems.Band Room: Room Size- Would like double doors entering the band room. Stepped Floor – platform width. TBD Needs that may not be shown? –it would be nice to have a sink in the band room andinstrument repair room. Instrument Storage Capacity-storage needs to accommodate all instruments-cannot haveinstruments on top of storage. Percussion instruments can be located at the back of theroom. Other storage?- (2) folder cabinets needed, 96 slots each. It would be nice to have built-incabinetry for speakers and sound equipment in band room. Wilson-can we re-useexisting storage units?-only if in good shape. Office or Desk area.-band office needs to have hard surfaces, and acoustic separation. Technology - Existing rear projection screens in lecture hall to be removed. Music Roomsmay be the exception to the mobile technology used in all other spaces. Music Roomsshould include a ceiling mounted projector and projection surface (not a screen)Projection surface in Band and Orchestra should be above the whiteboard if possible –Vocal Room needs to project onto whiteboard. Follow-up meeting needed with IT groupto discuss infrastructure needs in all music classrooms. Marker Boards / Tack Boards - White board needs to be located below screen. District todetermine whether screen is a digital display screen or will use a projector. White boardto include musical staff. Lockable cabinetry is needed for the sound board-need

additional information from Michaela. The sound board cabinet needs to be accessiblewhile teaching. Bulletin board needed near the door into band. (2) more bulletin boardsneeded in the space. Acoustics - Band room needs to be acoustically sealed/separated from other spaces. Willprovide acoustic solution that fits within the budget. Would like ducts to be larger to limitair movement “hissing”. Would like 18’-0” ceilings if possible. Doors into offices needacoustic seals. Practice Rooms - Band would like (2) practice rooms. VH will look into whether there isenough space. Wenger modular isolation rooms as an option? Carpet in band room preferred-more cost effective acoustic solution compared to roomacoustical panels. An instrument repair area is desired – could be in a ‘shared’ location. Needs 8’ counterarea with a sink.Orchestra Room Size Double doors needed entering Orchestra room. Kirn: room size is acceptable,need double doors; ceiling height is low and won’t work as vocal with risers Instrument Storage Capacity - Base and Cello go on racks. (2) 4-count bass racks and (5) 6count cello racks Office or Desk area. Office needed, need a window between the office and Orchestra. Technology Music Rooms may be the exception to the mobile technology used in all otherspaces. Music Rooms should include a ceiling-mounted projector and projection surface(not a screen) Projection surface in Band and Orchestra should be above the whiteboardif possible – Vocal Room needs to project onto whiteboard. Follow-up meeting neededwith IT group to discuss infrastructure needs in all music classrooms. Marker Boards / Tack Boards – Bulletin board near door. Mobile marker boards inOrchestra - 4’x6’ – ½ musical staff, ½ plain. Acoustics - Will provide acoustic solution that fits within the budget. Other? Hard surface floors preferred.Vocal Room Size - There are more kids in Vocal than in Orchestra. At Wilson, switch Vocal andOrchestra rooms. Double doors needed entering Vocal room. Kirn: need to look atstraightening the existing curved risers in the current band room to provide practiceenvironment for show choir similar to performance. Needs that may not be shown? It would be nice to have a drinking fountain near Vocal.Piano is for Vocal, would like a 10’x10’ room for the piano. Storage - Would be nice to have sheet music storage from Wenger (like Staci’s sketch onthe white board, sliding door that pulls out) - located in Band, Vocal, and Orchestraoffices. Vocal music library located in storage, single wardrobe cabinet for dresses andjackets would be nice. (2) folder spots needed. (2) wardrobe cabinets needed in thestorage room. Office or Desk area. Choir office wants (3) built-in 36” wide tall cabinets - reuse existing?Furniture? (1) wardrobe cabinet for the office. Technology Music Rooms may be the exception to the mobile technology used in all otherspaces. Music Rooms should include a ceiling-mounted projector and projection surface(not a screen) Projection surface in Band and Orchestra should be above the whiteboardif possible – Vocal Room needs to project onto whiteboard – vocal wants to write overprojected images. Follow-up meeting needed with IT group to discuss infrastructureneeds in all music classrooms. Marker Boards / Tack Boards – TBD Acoustics - Will provide acoustic solution that fits within the budget.

Other? –no curved risers in Vocal - 4’x8’ riser sections, need straight tiers, not curvedtiers. Kirn needs straight-tiered risers: 4’ deep by 32’ long. Mirrors need at front walls inchoir rooms.Art Millwork Configuration / Paper Storage. (6) double door, (12) slots requested. Size ‘Flat-File’base cabinets to accommodate 30”x24” max paper size. Shelving needed for clay andprojects. Drop-down power from ceiling is requested in addition to plenty of perimeteroutlets. Minimum 40’ lineal feet of counter with base cabinets requested. 36” deepcounter with clear sides requested for paper cutting area. Would like to have exposed,painted ceilings in the art rooms. Sinks – 2 compartment stainless steel type? (4) total sinks preferred-an option would be touse (1) 2-basin foodservice sink with sideboards with (2) additional regular sinks. Glicoclay trap required for ease of maintenance and cleaning by the teachers. Reconcile Room Sizes-Wilson: remove existing workrooms so that both art rooms are thesame size. Switch IJAG and Art Storage so that Art storage is near the art rooms. Kirn:Switch Project Lead the Way and TAG – Make TAG smaller and enlarge the Art Storage. Would like lights on a dimmer (preset settings: teaching, projector, high, and off), simple,easy to operate lighting-nothing fancy. No special infrastructure needed, need power for monitors. Retractable cords from theceiling requested. Sealed concrete floors desired. Art Storage: fire cabinet located in art storage. 36” deep counter needed in storage roomfor paper cutter. Power needed in storage room. Would like sink in storage room. Artmaterials are heavy, storage room in close proximity to art rooms. Kiln – 1 or 2? (2) kilns re-use existing kilns. Re-use existing kiln hoods at Kirn, providenew hoods at Wilson. “Extra” exhaust needed in kiln room, CB schools fires paper,exhaust fan on a switch is ok. Hood is the type that can swing over the kiln. Would likemetal wire rack shelves in kiln room. Would like space in kiln room for clay storage- theyhave (50) 50lb boxes of clay per year. Would like receptacle in kiln room so they canvacuum. Make sure there is adequate power for the kilns, existing power always trips thebreaker and have to use kilns at specific times of the day. Provide min (2) 8 ft marker boards. Provide lots of display space within classrooms – possibly tack-wall. Provide glass display case to the Corridors if possible.Spanish (should be 1 Classroom per Grade – in the Grade Level areas?) Are these ok NOT located in each grade level? Yes, this is ok. Configure same as a standard Classroom.ELL (English Language Learners) Std. Classroom layout, or other? Standard classroom layout. Could be smaller, only needroom for 8-10 students.TAG (Talented and Gifted) TAG - space for 17 kids at a time. Std. Classroom layout, or other? Standard classroom layout.Project Lead the Way Lockable Tall Storage-yes, standard tall cabinet. Configuration? Does not need to be 1200 SF, could be less. Other Room Requirements? Would like high definition monitors, and mobile storage.IJAG (No IJAG at Kirn) Room Requirements? Standard classroom layout.

Business / Marketing / Planning Room Requirements? Standard classroom layout.Computer Classroom Room Requirements? Standard classroom layout.Creative Communication Room Requirements? Standard classroom layout.Learning Center Study carrels? Furniture, or other?. Provide a center wall /divider to separate kids comingand going from those staying, and for private conversations. Study area will be a longcounter with dividers to separate students. Need standard classroom tall cabinet.Essentials Classroom Room Requirements? Standard classroom layout.Literacy Lab Room Requirements? Standard classroom layout.Gym and /Cafeteria spacesCompetition Gym. HVAC Only HVAC work needs to happen. Confirm condition of basketball backboards.Replacement of Gym Equipment was not anticipated in pre-bond estimates.Secondary Gym Space Remove all basketball goals? Yes, district will provide portable basketball goals. Alsoremove existing scoreboard. Flooring.o Wilson: wood floors were just re-finished last year. Will need to re-finish areaunder bleachers that was not accessible for re-finish this past year.o Kirn: floor needs to durable, quick cleanability, acoustical, and able to havebleachers rolled-out on top of it. Chairback Seating for 400. Yes. Acoustical Improvements. Yes. Sound System – not included. District to purchase. Will need to coordinate rough-ins. Portable Stage - not included. District to purchase. Correct. Storage Double doors needed into storage. More storage desirable.Weights / Fitness / Wrestling (Kirn) Confirm scope of work. Remove existing tectum panels and close off the upper areaweights/wrestling to the competition gym below. Clean-up and paint only at remainingareas.Wrestling (Wilson). Confirm scope of work. Clean-up / paint only. Leave floor as concrete – district will providemats.Exercise (Wilson). Clean-up and paint. Remove lay-in ceiling if possible for more headroom. New ‘exercise’recycled rubber flooring.Locker Room Areas:PE Locker Rooms.The following assumptions were included in the SD Cost Estimate Documents: Fully Accessible restrooms Provide 2 individual shower stalls at each locker room. Provide tile finish at showers.

Re-coat floor areas at remainder of locker rooms. Slip-resistant epoxy paintproduct. Re-paint entire locker room area. Remove all existing lockers, replace with new lockers in the following quantitiesand sizes:o (200) 15” x 15” x 18”, 3-tier ventilated PE lockers per locker room.o (40) 15” x 15” x 48” single-tier ventilated ‘competition sports’ lockers perlocker room.Football Locker Room (Kirn Only)The following assumptions were included in the SD Cost Estimate Documents for Kirn Only: Fully Accessible RR’s available as part of adjacent locker room space. 2 individual shower stalls available as part of adjacent locker room space. Provide tile finish at showers. Re-coat floor areas. Slip-resistant epoxy paint product. Re-paint entire locker room area. Remove all existing lockers, replace with new lockers in the following quantitiesand sizes:o (80) 18” x 18” x 36”, single-tier ventilated football lockers. Discussed need for ‘parity’ at Wilson related to ‘Football Locker Room’. Discussedpossibility of a Football Locker Room being created within existing space under thegrandstand at the adjacent stadium. District needs to review and advise the design team.Kirn – Swim Lockers. Fully accessible restrooms and showers. Yes, provide ADA accessibility. Number of lockers. Remove all existing lockers. Provide 20-40 new lockers; 15x15x30 –double height, HDPE (plastic) type lockers. Number of Showers – private or just curtains. Two showers (one ADA accessible). Privateshower with curtain drying area. Provide tile finish at showers. Re-coat floor areas. Slip-resistant epoxy paint product. Re-paint entire locker room area.Overall review of Schematic Design – (End of Schematic Design Phase): SD Drawing Package and Outline Specifications. BVH provided District with a hard-copy ofthe Drawings and Outline Specifications. Reviewed Plans with attendees. Answered questions from Kerry Newman (Kirn) and KimKazmierczak (Wilson).Exterior Images: Review updated images. The team provided feedback and requested changes to thecurrent main entrance/exterior design.Survey and Geotech Proposals Need signed proposals from District. District still waiting for Olsson and HGM Hourly Rateattachments before signing. BVH will follow-up.
