Connection DiagramUsing the specialized Ethernet cable provided, connect the camera output to thevideo inputs on the NVR. A power adapter is not required as the NVR will providepower through the Ethernet cable.Choosing a Location For Your CameraThere are a number of factors you will need to consider when choosing where tomount your camera - not least of which is what you will want to see.Weather & TamperingThe camera’s casing is resistant to water, different weather conditions and tampering. It would take an overwhelming event of this kind to damage the housing of thecamera (severe weather such as hurricanes or someone intentionally damagingthe lens would be enough). However, the cable and connector are vulnerable andrequire protection.Cable ManagementFor best results, run the cable inside a wall cavity or other protected enclosure, andensure that the LAN connection is safely sealed away from rain, direct sunlight andpotential vandals.4

General Guidelines The internal components of the camera can be damaged by prolonged exposureto direct sunlight. Don’t let direct sunlight into the lens! The camera gets great images when it’s in the shade, looking at subjects thatare well lit. Don’t place the camera in bright light and have it facing shade ordarkness. Bright light sources to the sides of, or behind the subject will interfere with yourimages. The camera’s night vision will give well-exposed images if the area is dark. However, if there’s a bright point source in the camera’s view (a streetlight, carheadlights or similar) then it might not engage night vision mode. Typically, the best view is obtained approximately 7ft (2m) to 10ft (3m) high, looking slightly downwards. The camera can be mounted to a wall or ceiling.Mounting GuidePosition the camera in the location you want to mount it, and mark the position onthe surface to position the screws. If you’re mounting to a wooden surface, then screw the camera directly to thesurface. If you’re mounting to a masonry surface (bricks, concrete or similar) then you’llneed to use the included wall plugs.Adjusting the Camera Settings When the camera is connected to your NVR, it will be automatically detectedand an IP address will be assigned to it. If the camera is not detected, check thatyou have the cable inserted correctly. Please go to page 25 of the user manualincluded with your NVR for a detailed explanation of the options available. At the ‘Menu’ screen, click ‘Record’ then click ‘Encoding’ to change settings forresolution, frame rate and video quality. Please go to page 22 of the user manual included with your NVR for a detailedexplanation of the encoding options available.5
