Page 3Notes from the Educator—Tire PressureMore temperature sensitivethan you might thinkBy: James R. DavisAs we are now into the colder months of theyear I thought it appropriate to post a reminder about tire pressures and the effect oftemperature on same.Stamped on the outside of many of your tiresis a recommended tire pressure range. (Atleast an upper limit.) For longest tire life it ismy recommendation that you strive to keepthem at the higher limit of those recommendations (regardless of what your motorcycleowner's manual might say to the contrary.)Further, this pressure should be determinedwhile the tires are cold - meaning, have notbeen used for a couple of hours.Time and outside temperature effect the pressure within your tires. It is NORMAL for atire to lose about 1 pound per square inch(psi) per month. Outside temperatures affectyour tire pressure far more profoundly, however. A tire's pressure can change by 1 psifor every 10 degrees Fahrenheit of temperature change. As temperature goes, so goespressure. For example, if a tire is found to have 38 psion an 80-degree mid-summer day, it couldlose enough air to have an inflation pressureof 26 psi on a 20-degree day six monthslater. This represents a loss of 6 psi over sixmonths and an additional loss of 6 psi due tothe 60 degree temperature reduction. At 26 psi, your tire is severely under inflatedand dangerous! There is nothing wrong with your tire if itbehaves like this, of course. What is beingillustrated here is that you MUST check yourtire pressure on a regular basis (about once aweek is reasonable) and to be particularlyaware of it on cold days.Copyright 1992 - 2016 by The MasterStrategy Group, all rights reserved.http://www.msgroup.org(James R. What a wonderful event it will be. Lot of activities and seminars will be available for you to enjoy. For example, CPR/First Aid training will be offered. There will be classes of all kinds offered for general riding education and personal knowledge thatsupport being a safer rider and co-rider. There will also be classes available to support member development. Chapterlife and your interactions within the chapter are important. There will be classes available to support chapter development.During one of my Chapter gatherings I was discussing the Rider Education Levels Program. A question was asked. Canco-riders participate in the Levels Program? The answer is YES! They can achieve the same levels as the riders. Thereare classes that support co-rider development and increase their joy in riding. One such class is the Co-Rider Seminar. The Co-Rider Seminar provides education and information that will result in increased awareness and greater team interaction (between rider and co-rider) while motorcycle riding.(Continued on page 5)

Membership Enhancement Coordinator(Continued(cont)Page 5from page 3)The objective while riding is to have Fun and do it safely. The more knowledgeable and prepared we are to reducerisk the better. Remember risk reduction is key, there is never a bad day to learn something new whether you are arider or a co-rider. GWRRA offers classes to support rider and co-rider development. A lot of these classes will beavailable at WinterThing 2020.Again WinterThing 2020 is just around the corner. Come support our District Rally. If you have not registered pleasedo, you will see some old friends and meet some new ones. But more importantly there will be activities for all toattend and have Fun with.Larry & Penny Anthony, Directors of Membership Enhancement, are looking for additions to the Fun Activities Guide. They stated in the October Insight that they are exploring possibilities for fun new activities at Wing Ding 42. Suggestions received thus far are Chapter Feud (like Family Feud), Wingo (bingo), and the Not So New Newlywed Game(married over 10 years). They are asking for ideals. The ideals do not have to be tilted toward contests or awards, justsomething to sit down with friends and have fun! So, if you have some ideals or suggestions please submit them. Thisis an opportunity to provide input for updating the Fun Activities Guide and for providing a possible fun activity forWing Ding 42.Darryl Fielder,District Membership Enhancement CoordinatorMaryland/Delaware Chapter GatheringsMaryland District Directors - Danny & Paulette Horton, candyorange18@gmail.comDE-A - 2nd Saturday, Eat 0830 Meet 0900 (1000 Eat/Meet Winter), Route 40 Diner, 1705 Pulaski Hwy, Bear, DE 19701 ,C/D Rick Hein, 302-750-4649, rickshein@gmail.comDE-B - 1st Saturday, Eat/Meet 0800, Pizza King, 300 W Stein Hwy, Seaford, DE 19973 ,C/D Kenneth & Lois Ingram , 410 208-4803, ken.lois@mchsi.comMD-B - 3rd Saturday, Eat 0800 Meet 0900, Golden Corral, 1001 Shoppers Way, Largo MD,C/D Charles & Shirley Dorsey, 301 843-7721, shydee@comcast.netMD-F - 2nd Saturday, 8 am Eat/ 9 am Meet Golden Corral, 17635 Valley Mall Road, Hagerstown, MdC/D Jeff and Jeanie Kauffman, 301-667-5617 , J Kauffman@myactv.netMD-H – 4th Sunday eat at 8 am – Meet at 9 am Golden Corral, Route 40, Aberdeen, MDC/D Kevin Paul, 443-834-2608, 750kaw@gmail,comMD-I - 1st Sunday eat & meet at 9:00 am – The Riverview Restaurant at the Wicomico Shores Golf Course, 35794 Aviation YachtClub Road, Mechanicsville, MDC/D Bob & Julie A'Hearn, 301-997-1254, rahearn914@aol.comMD-J - 3rd Sunday eat at 8 am – Meet at 9 am, South County Café, 5918 Deale Churchton Rd, Deale, MDC/D Terry Gardner, 410- 255-3672, a90098@verizon.netMD-L Gathering 2nd Sunday eat at 8 am – Meet at 9 am, Denny’s, 8493 Ocean Gateway, Easton, MDC/D Ken Groves, 410-507-0949, kfgroves@comcast.net
