Never use pliers to do another tool’sjob. Pliers should not be used as ahammer or pry tool or a wrench. Usingpliers instead of the proper tools risksdamaging the work, damaging yourself, and losing time.2. Never push pliers beyond theircapacity. Bending stiff wire with lightpliers or the tip of needle-nose pliers canspring them or break them. Use astronger, blunt nose pliers. When youneed greater leverage, use pliers withgreater leverage. Don’t extend the lengthof the pliers handles. Bolts should be cutwith a bolt cutter, and large cable with acable cutter.3. Never expose pliers to excessive heat.Direct flame on metal can ruin the tool.Cutting pliers are especially vulnerable tohigh, direct heat.4. Never cut hardened wire withordinary pliers. Pliers should not be usedfor cutting hardened wire unless they arespecifically recommended for this use.5. Never rock pliers from side to sidewhen cutting wire and never bend thewire back and forth against the cuttingknives. Either practice can dull or nickthe cutting edges. Cut wire at a rightangle only. If it won’t cut readily, theknives may need sharpening. Or youmay need pliers with greater leverage.8. Never depend on plastic-dippedhandles to insulate you from electricity.Plastic-dipped handles are intended forcomfort and a firmer grip only. They arenot intended for protection againstelectric shock. Never use any pliers orcutting tools on live electrical circuits.Only use insulated tools that are markedwith the official international 1000-voltrating symbol if there is any chance thatthe tool will make contact with anenergized source.9. Always wear approved eye protectionsuch as protective goggles or a facemask.Pliers Catalog Number Prefixes/Suffixes“D” (Prefix) – Indicates the pliers haveplastic-dipped handles. Plastic-dippedhandles are for comfort, NOT forprotection against electrical shock.“HD” (Prefix) – Indicates the pliers haveheavy-duty plastic-dipped handles.Heavy-duty plastic-dipped handlesprovide an extra level of user comfortand are NOT for protection againstelectrical shock.“J” (Prefix) – Indicates the pliers haveJourneyman handles. State-of-the-artdual material molding that allows for asofter, more comfortable grip on theouter surface and a harder, more durablegrip on the inner surface and handleends.“C” (Suffix) – Indicates the pliers have acoil spring in the handles for selfopening action.6. Never cut any wire or metal unlessyour eyes are protected. Goggles orother protective devices are an absolutemust. Don’t take shortcuts. Operatesafely. the professional way.7. Never cut any wire or metal unlessyour fellow workers’ eyes are alsoprotected. The wire that doesn’t get youmay get someone else. Think about the“other guy” as well as yourself.4RSP-PRC033-EN

Screwdrivers, Nut Drivers& AccessoriesIntroduction – Screwdrivers,Nut Drivers & AccessoriesKlein screwdrivers give professionalsextra-quality features that have made theKlein name famous for hand tools–features that assure greaterconvenience, comfort and efficiency inuse, plus exceptional strength anddurability. All Klein drivers are made of the highestquality tempered steel, carefully heattreated for maximum strength. Shaftshave integral flanges that provide anextra-strong, torque-proof anchor in thehandle.Strong, durable black tips are forged andprecision ground with square edges to fitscrew openings securely. They resistslippage and provide positive turningaction.Cushion-Grip screwdrivers featuresupercomfortable, sure-grip handles ontop-quality blades for the professional. All Klein screwdrivers meet or exceedapplicable ANSI and MIL specifications.RSP-PRC033-ENUsing ScrewdriversThe size of the screw and the type ofopening it has determines which driverto use. But there are a few tips on how touse a driver that can be of benefit, because screwdrivers are the most oftenmisused and abused hand tools of all.1. Never use a driver to do another tool’sjob.Using a driver as a pry bar, scraper, or achisel can ruin the tool, spoil the work, and cause injury.2. Never push a driver beyond itscapacity.Make a pilot hole for the screw for easierdriving. Use square-shank drivers forheavy work.3. Never expose a driver to excessiveheat.Direct flame can draw the temper fromthe metal, weakening and possiblywarping it, making it unsafe andinefficient to use.4. Never use a driver at an angle to thescrew.Always keep the shank perpendicular tothe screw head. Driving at an angle orusing a point that is too small can spoilthe screw or slip and damage the work.5. Never depend on a driver’s handle orcovered blade to insulate you fromelectricity.Plastic and Cushion-Grip handles areintended only to provide a firm, comfortable grip. Insulated blades areintended only as a protective measureagainst shorting out components. Onlyuse insulated tools that are marked withthe official international 1000-volt ratingsymbol if there is any chance that thetool will make contact with an energizedsource.6. Discard damaged or worn drivers.15
