It can be challengingto come up with healthylunch ideas that will enticeyour children. Try some ofthese ideas listed on theGreatSchools website tokeep your children fueledand healthy for the day: Cut sandwiches into funshapes. Use a knife tocut sandwiches intotriangles or diamondshapes. Or for a varietyof shapes, use cookiecutters. Provide different shapedpastas. Although macaroni is a perennial favorite, other shapes including snowmen, bunniesand letters are alsoavailable. Offer withmild sauces or as a saladwith olive oil, cubedmeat, and Parmesan cheese. It doesn't have to be asandwich. Kids lovedips. Try hummus or acream cheese dip andveggies, or bean dip andtoasted pita chips orbagel chips for a protein-filled addition.Make a roll-up. Tryspreading cream cheeseand dates and/or raisinson lavash bread and rollit up. Shredded carrotsand cucumbers or additional veggies can alsobe used instead of raisins. Make fruit kabobs. Besure to use fruits that aren'ttoo messy and cut off sharptips of wooden skewersbefore packing into lunches.Chunks of watermelon, pineapple and grapes aregood choices.Encourage your child topack her own lunch. Helpher pick healthy choices thatare fun to eat, such as stringcheese, fruit, carrot sticks, and pudding cups. If shepacks it, she will be morelikely to eat it.OCTOBER IS GOOD MANNERS MONTHOctober marks the beginning of our intentionalvirtues curriculum. Thegoal with this curriculumis to teach your child adifferent virtue eachmonth. The first virtue, orin this case, cluster of virtues, is that of good manners. Teachers, as always, will role model havinggood manners to the children and will ask them topractice these virtuesthemselves. Like any skills, the more children practice these skills, the better they will be at thosevirtues and the more likely they will become lifelong habits. Teachers willexplain to children whywe are polite. In beingpolite, we show respectand kindness for eachother.Thank you!

THANK YOU GRANDBOB M OYLANA big “Thank You!!” to Jameson Moylan’s Grandbob, pictured above withLee Walsh, who donated over seventybeautiful hardbound new books to thepreschool in his wife’s memory. Hiswife, Sara Moylan, was a reading teacher whose work was also her passion.COLD, FLU & LICE SEASON IS HERE! YIPEE!With the arrival of fall comesthe onset of colds, flu, andmany other delightful viruses. There are several steps thatyou and we can take to helpreduce the incidence of illness in your child. To combat the spread of these illnesses we ask you to pleasehave your child wash his/herhands upon arrival to school.Talk to your child (as we do)about the proper way tocough to minimize the spreadof germs. Finally, we ask thatif your child is sick, pleasekeep him/her home. In particular, if your child has a wetcough, a green nose or fever, please take a day off. Children must be fever free for24 hours before returning toschool. This will minimalizethe risk of spreading the virus to other children. If yourchild does need to missschool for any reason, pleasecall or email the preschooloffice tolet usknow sothat wecan letyourchild’s teacher know.In addition to viruses, thisis also a good time of yearto find lice upon your children. Like the Montgomery County Public Schoolsystem, we have a nit freelice policy. If your child isfound to have nits or lice, then he/she will be senthome for treatment. When the child is nit free, then he/she may return toschool. Your child must bechecked in the preschooloffice by either Lauren orLee prior to returning toclass.
