GENERAL INFORMATIONPurpose of the CatalogThis catalog is the official bulletin of Texas A&M University-San Antonio for the 2013-2014 academic year, in whichare published the record of the year closing, the announcements for the coming year and the official administrativeprocedures which will be in effect during the coming year. Fees and administrative procedures (except standards andrequirements for degrees) are, however, subject to change. This catalog may be viewed onlineat http://www.tamusa.tamus.edu under the “Academics” tab.The courses of instruction announced herein are those that are available for offering during the sessions of August2013-August 2014. Courses to be offered during any one semester or summer term are posted in the JaguarConnection prior to registration for a particular semester or term. To meet evolving needs, the University does reservethe right to make changes in courses and to offer only those for which a sufficient number of students register.The provisions of this catalog do not constitute a contract, express or implied, between any applicant, student, facultyor staff member of Texas A&M University-San Antonio or The Texas A&M University System. HistoryTexas A&M University-San Antonio was created in 2000 to address an educational need in south San Antonio. TheTexas Legislature asked The Texas A&M University System to establish a center that would offer junior- and seniorlevel courses in south San Antonio, an area that has been historically underserved in terms of higher education. TheUniversity, then known as Texas A&M University-Kingsville System Center-San Antonio, was approved by theTexas Higher Education Coordinating Board in January 2000. On May 23, 2009, Gov. Rick Perry signed Senate Bill629 that created Texas A&M University-San Antonio as a stand-alone university. Texas A&M University-SanAntonio is now an upper-division university offering bachelor’s and master’s degree programs.Mission of the UniversityTexas A&M University-San Antonio faculty and staff prepare and empower students through innovative andchallenging academic and co-curricular programs that contribute to and enrich the economic and social developmentof the community and region. A solid foundation for success is established through dynamic teaching, scholarship,research, and public service that inspire graduates to lifelong learning and responsible global citizenship.2
