We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our students can achieve their highest potential. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, students need support from both the home and school. We know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in their education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our student’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities. We ask that you guide and support your student’s learning by ensuring that he/she: 1) Attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day’s learning experience 2) Completes all homework assignments given by teachers 3) Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills 4) Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of his/her school life 5) Informs you if he/she needs additional support in any area or subject 6) Knows that you expect him/her to succeed in school and go on to college It is very important that you and your child are fully informed regarding standards related to appropriate behavior for a safe and productive school year. School Philosophy Youth Co-Op Preparatory Charter School will: Provide a high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating students to meet the state standards. Provide an annual orientation meeting to inform parents of students in the Title I Program of their rights to be involved. Actively involve parents in planning, reviewing, and improving the Title I program and the parental involvement policy. Provide parent-teacher conferences at flexible times during which this Compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement. Specifically, conferences will be held throughout the school year. School-parent Compact will be distributed and discussed during open house. Provide high quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating students to meet the state standards as follows: state standards are discussed at open house in the fall, parent/teacher conferences, classroom sheets, agendas, goal setting, data chats with students, conducting walk throughs, monitoring curriculum, analyzing school wide data, monitoring teacher lesson plans and alignment to various content pacing guides. Provide parents with reasonable access to staff. Faculty will be available for scheduled meetings/conferences with parents as follows: Monday thru Friday from 7:30 to 3:30 P.M. at the school site. Provide parents with frequent reports on their child’s progress. The school will provide reports as follows: Communication with parents is, on an as needed basis, through use of agendas, school notes, e-mail and phone calls. We use quarterly report cards, progress reports, i-Ready quarterly reports, and conferences when needed. Provide parents with opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s education as follows: Chaperone field trips, dances, serve on the school committees or advisory councils as a parent representative, help on school projects, help in the cafeteria, or in the school office, provide food for a school event, and/or work in our parent resource center. Provide a safe and secure learning environment. 7

School Hours 8:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Kindergarten & 1st Grade 8:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. 2nd - 5th Grade 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. 6th -12th Registration Requirements There is no tuition or registration fees charged for Youth Co-Op Charter School or Youth Co-Op Preparatory High School. All students enrolled at Youth Co-Op Charter School and Youth Co-Op Preparatory High School must meet the following requirements and provide the following information: Students who will attain the age of five years on or before September 1st of the school year shall be eligible for admission to public kindergarten during that school year. Necessary Documents: 1. Copy of Birth Certificate 2. Previous transcripts and records from last school(s) (if necessary, for gradeverification) 3. Health and Immunization forms (blue and yellow forms) 4. Completed registration packet (including student data card) 5. Signed parent contract Lottery The lottery system is used when more students apply for admission to Youth Co-Op Charter School and Youth Co-Op Preparatory High School than can be admitted. If there are fewer applicants than spaces available, YCCS and YCPS does not need to conduct a lottery. 8

Attendance Standards There are probably no factors more important to a student’s progress in school than regular and punctual attendance. Any time a student returns to school after an absence, a note must be brought from home within 72 hours. 1. School Attendance - Students are to be counted in attendance only if they are present for at least two (2) hours of the day or engaged in a school-approved educational activity which constitutes a part of the instructional program for the student. 2. Class Attendance - Students are to be counted in attendance if they are physically present in class for at least half of the class period, have been excused by the teacher on a class-related assignment, or have been requested by a member of the school support staff for an approved school activity. In Grades 6 – 12, classes meet every other day. Therefore, one school day absence will count as 2 absences. 3. Late Arrivals - A student is considered tardy if they are not present at the moment the school bell rings for the class assigned. NOTE: If a student is not present when attendance is taken but is present later in the school day, that student may be considered in attendance, but tardy, and the absence should be changed. A student who is tardy should not remain on record as being absent, however, you will receive a phone call from the school indicating that the student was absent on this day. 4. Early Dismissals - No student shall be released within the final thirty (30) minutes for Grades K through 1 or one (1) hour for Grades 2 through12 of the school day unless authorized by the principal or principal’s designee. Excused Absences All doctors/parent’s notes must be received in the office within three (3) days of the student returning to school. 1. If a student is absent from school due to a personal illness, the student needs to bring a note from the parent or health care provider. The written statement must include all days the student has been absent from school. If a student is continually sick and repeatedly absent from school due to a specific medical condition, he/she must be under the supervision of a health care provider to receive excused absences from school. (Medical evidence may be required by the Principal for absences exceeding five (5) consecutive days). 9

2. Court appearance of the student, subpoena by law enforcement agency, or mandatory court appearance. 3. Absence due to a medical appointment requires a written statement from a health care provider indicating the date and time of the appointment and submitted to the Principal. 4. An approved school activity (absences recorded but not reported). 5. Other absences with prior approval of the Principal. 6. Attendance at a center under Department of Children and Families supervision. 7. Significant community events with prior permission of the Principal, when more than one (1) school day is involved. 8. Observance of a religious holiday or service when it is mandated for all members of a faith that such a holiday or service should be observed. 9. Death in the immediate family. 10. School-sponsored event or educational enrichment activity that is not a school-sponsored event, as determined and approved by the Principal. The student must receive advance written permission from the Principal. Examples of special events include public functions, conferences, and regional, State, and national competitions. 11. Outdoor suspension. 12. Other individual student absences beyond the control of the parent or student, as determined and approved by the Principal, require documentation related to the condition. Unexcused Absences: Any absence that does not fall into one of the above excused absence categories is to be considered unexcused. Any student who has been absent from school will be marked as an unexcused absence until he/she submits required documentation as specified above. Failure to provide required documentation within three (3) school days upon the return to school will result in an unexcused absence. Students will not be able to make up any work for the unexcused absence days affecting their academic grade. 10

Unexcused absences include absences due to: Vacations, personal services, local non-school event, program or sporting activity. 1. Older students providing day care services for siblings. 2. Illness of others. 3. Non-compliance with immunization requirements (unless lawfully exempted). Excessive Absences: A student accumulating ten or more unexcused absences may have quarterly, semester and final grade(s) withheld pending an administrative review and completion of assigned interventions by the Attendance Review Committee. Late Arrivals/ TardiesTo School: A student is tardy when he/she is not in the classroom in his /her seat by the time the first bell rings. Students arriving to school after their designated start time are expected to report to the main office for a tardy pass. Tardies will be excused ONLY for medical appointments or if the student is sick. If a student is late to school due to a medical appointment, a written statement from a health care provider indicating the date and time of the appointment, must be submitted to the main office. Tardies To Class: If a student is in attendance in school, he/she will be considered tardy to class if he/she is not in his/her assigned seat when the tardy bell rings. Students who are excessively tardy will be referred to the appropriate administrator. Arrivals Students are expected to be in their first class between 8:00 a.m. in Grades K -5 and 8:30 a.m.for 6 - 12 grades in order to get ready for the school day. This is very important time to prepare mentally for the day, greet friends and teachers, and get materials ready as needed. Instruction begins promptly at 8:30 a.m. We request your cooperation in getting your child to school on time as this will ensure your child the best chance 11

for a successful day. Students need to learn the importance of regular school attendance. In addition, it is important that students report to school on time. Early Dismissal The early release of students causes disruption to the academic performance of all students and may create safety and security concerns. No student shall be released within the final 30 minutes of the school day for Grades K- 1 and 1 hour for Grades 2nd thru 12th unless authorized by an administrator (i.e., emergency, sickness). Students and their families are urged to arrange doctor, dental, and other appointments at hours that are not in conflictwith school time. Parents/Legal Guardians needing to sign their children out of school early must have a completed EMERGENCY CONTACT CARD on file and must present a valid form of picture ID {driver's license, military ID, etc.). If a student has to be signed out of school early by an adult other than a parent or legal guardian, the adult must be listed in the AUTHORIZATION FOR RELEASE OF STUDENT FROM SCHOOL section on the bottom reverse side of the EMERGENCY CONTACT CARD and must also present a valid form of picture ID. If any of the above is not available, the student will not be released from school early. Arrival Procedures Children should not be left unattended in any classroom without school personnel supervision. Supervision, by school personnel, is available at 7:15 a.m. Upon arrival, students should proceed to the following locations: Grades Monday - Friday Arrival Hours Kindergarten – 1st Grade 7:15-7:55 Cafeteria 2 2nd-5th Grade 7:15-7:55 Cafeteria 1 6th – 8th Grade 7:30-8:25 Basketball Court 9th – 12th Grade 7:30-8:25 12 Arrival Location Spill Out Area adjacent to Large Cafeteria

Supervision is provided in the identified arrival locations only. Students will be picked up by their teacher at the designated time/location and escorted to their classroom except students who are in Middle and High School. No students should be waiting outside of their classrooms prior to 8:00 a.m. These procedures will help ensure staff is able to properly supervise and prepare students for an orderly and timely start of the day. Drive Thru Drop Off Option Grades K – 3 students can be dropped off at the vehicle drop-off/loading area by the green canopy in the side of the school. Grades 4-5 will be dropped off in the left side by the white canopy by the portables. Middle and High School students will be dropped off on the right side next to the basketball court in the back of the building. Staff will be available to greet and assist students to their designated arrival locations. Under Florida Law, please refrain from using your cellphones while driving into our campus and/or waiting for students during arrival and dismissal times. Pedestrian Option The pedestrian option for drop off is strongly discouraged. However, if you choose to park in the school parking lot and walk your child to school, the only available entrance for walkers will be at the main entrance of the school. All parents must depart the campus once they have dropped off their student. Please note: Parents should not park across the street and have students walk into the campus. Parents must not park in the neighboring businesses to drop off or pick up students. Dismissal Procedures Drive Thru Pick Up Option Students will be escorted by their teachers to the Drive Thru Pick Up Area. Families will be instructed to wait next to the grade sign pertaining to their student. Vehicles will only be allowed to drive into our pick- up area. For their safety, studentswill not be loaded into a vehicle at any other area along the line other than at the designated pick-up point at the front of the line. Students will not be allowed to walk away from the dismissal line-up area to load a vehicle away from the drop-off/pick up area. Vehicles are to enter single file through the vehicle drop-off and pick-up lane and remain in a single file. If you need to communicate important information to the teacher, please use email or call 13

the school. Teachers will not be available for a conference at this time. Conferences must be scheduled in advance when teachers are not responsible for any students. Under Florida Law, please refrain from using your cellphones while driving into our campus and/or waiting for students during arrival and dismissal times. Please be patient and continue to follow drop-off/pick-up procedures to ensure your child’s safety. School Before & Aftercare Information Before School Care and After School Care is provided. YCPS Before/After School Care Program is available from 7:15 a.m. until school starts and from 1:30 pm to 6:00 pm daily. Activities include homework assistance, indoor and outdoor games, music, art, and many other activities. For the 2021-2022 school year, YCCS and YCPS students will have before care services free of charge. For more information, please contact our afterschool care program director or visit our website at www.ycps.org. Student Aftercare Registration The one-time annual registration fee of 25 (non-refundable) is due at registration with a completed application to reserve a spot for your child. 14

Program Hours and Fees Below are the hours of operation for our before and after school care programs. Program Fees vary based on the number of school days per month. For exact fee information, please refer to the school website www.ycps.org. or contact our afterschool care director. BEFORE CARE (FREE) Grades K – 5: 7: 15a.m. - 8:00a.m. Grades 6 – 12: 7: 15a.m. – 8:30a.m. 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. TIGER HOUR ( 60.00) For 20 days K – 1- 1:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. 2 – 5 -2:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. 6 – 12 - 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. K – 1 1:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. 2 – 5 -2:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. 6 – 12 - 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. AFTERCARE ( 160.00 per 1st Child)For 20 days AFTERCARE ( 140.00 per Sibling)For 20 days AFTERCARE LATE PICK -UP ( 10.00 after every 15 mins.) After 6:01 p.m. 1. Parents must register students during the open registration windows assigned by the school. 2. Beginning at 3:30 p.m. students may be picked up from the School Aftercare program. Please note that the Aftercare Program will not dismiss any students between 3:00 and 3:30 p.m. 3. Students must be signed out on the dismissal sheet at the front desk by the parent and/or another authorized person. All parents or authorized persons picking up a student should carry a photo ID at all times. 4. Students will not be dismissed to your vehicle. 5. All students must be picked up by 6:00 p.m. Failure to do so, may result in additional charges. Multiple violations will result in the removal of your child from the program. ** Please refer to our Afterschool Handbook for additional information. 15

Student Rights & Responsibilities Each student at YCPS has the right to: a rigorous education ask questions and get honest answers make mistakes know the grading policy and their current grades think their own thoughts and have their own beliefs be treated with respect and care the responsibility to allow others to exercise the above stated rights Code of Excellence We believe that a safe and orderly school is of primary importance. When students behave in a respectful, responsible, and safe manner, they learn more and develop into responsible adults whose “character counts”. The YCPS School Code of Excellence is a school-wide plan that clearly outlines student expectations. Proper behavior is recognized, and consequences are given for breaking the code. As Miami-Dade County Public School students, YCCS and YCPS students are required to abide by the Code of Student Conduct found in the link: x.htm Each parent must take an active role in supporting this plan. We want our students to learn to be responsible citizens. It is in the student’s best interest that parents and staff work together to ensure a happy, safe and productive learning experience. The YCPS Code of Excellence expects students to be honest, kind, respectful, patient, proud, and courteous. YCPS encourages our students to believe that mistakes are acceptable, as long as you learn from them. After the 3rd Consequence, referrals and documentation of inappropriate behavior will become part of the student’s permanent record. Administrative Consequences: Administration Parent Contact/Meeting – Depending on the incident, an alternative to suspension consequence may be issued and/or referral to an outside agency. Indoor Suspension Outdoor Suspension Administrative consequences are not necessarily sequential and multiple may be issued simultaneously. Special Note - Per the Code of Student Conduct, any Group III, IV, and V Violation may result in a suspension from school and/or notification to local police department and or recommendation for placement into an alternative setting depending on the severity. Code of Student Conduct The student's conduct determines to a great extent the full development of his/her potential for learning and the development of positive relationships. Y C C S a n d YCPS follows the Miami-Dade County Public School Student Code of Conduct. The Code of Student Conduct addresses not only the role of the parents, the students, and the school but also specifies areas relative to grounds for disciplinary action, procedures to be followedfor acts requiring disciplinary action, (i.e., suspension), and the rights and responsibilities of students. Code of Student Conduct can be accessed at: http://ehandbooks.dadeschools.net/policies/90/. If families need a hard copy of the M-DCPS Student Code of Conduct, please notify your child's teacher and a copy will be sent home with the student. Discipline Discipline is the process of changing a student's behavior from inappropriate to exemplary. We are never satisfied with merely stopping poor behavior. We desire to teach the student to do what is right. Students are not disciplined out of anger or for the sake of convenience, but with the intention of helping the student make appropriate choices. Though no student desires discipline, they 17

often need it in order to reach their full potential. Each teacher will establish appropriate procedures for discipline in his/her classroom based on the following guidelines. Please note that this list is not allinclusive. Students are expected to respect the authority of school personnel, which includes but is not limited to: administration, teachers, staff, and substitutes. Students are expected to respect all other persons, including, but not limited to other students and visitors. Malicious destruction of school property results in the replacement, repair or payment for damages by either the student or his/her parents. The placement of stickers on school property is forbidden. Students shall keep the school clean at all times. There is to be no gum chewing in the school building or on the school grounds. Items such as water pistols, matches, radios, cd players, skateboards, Gameboys, iPod, iPhone watches with internet capabilities, trading cards, Silly Bandz, toys, weapons of any sort, etc. are not permitted at school. Real toys or toy weapons, knives, guns or any device intended to harm others are strictly prohibited. Violations of any of this rule will result in an automatic 10 day suspension and possible expulsion from the school, as per the Code of Student Conduct.
