MCPS ELA 2nd Grade Pacing Guide MCPS Vision for Learning Using high-quality instructional materials, teachers will prepare learning experiences that include standardsaligned questions and tasks to create rigorous learning opportunities. Students build knowledge that is transferable to experiences outside the classroom through ownership of their reading, writing, thinking, problem solving and collaboration, with support as needed, to ensure access for all. Leadership will support these expectations through a reflective culture of improvement and accountability. In pursuing student mastery of new and prior content, sound assessment practices and the scaffolding of remediation are utilized to address standards gaps. Maury County Public Schools provide a Scope & Sequence to guide English Language Arts teachers in organizing their teaching and assessment of students on the Tennessee ELA Academic Standards. This Scope & Sequence is developed in alignment with Wonders, a standards-aligned program that includes a flexible instructional model; thematic units; multi-genre texts; integrated reading, writing, speaking and listening, and language skills instruction; and collaborative activities. Timeline ** Quarter 1 – Complete Unit 1, start Unit 2 Quarter 2 – Complete Unit 2 and 3 Quarter 3 – Complete Unit 4, start Unit 5 Quarter 4 – Complete Unit 5 and 6 ** Highlighted standards are indicated as those for more focus during these weeks & assessed on Wonders Unit Assessments. 1 MCPS 2nd Grade ELA Pacing Guide 2022-2023

Report Card Scoring 4 3 2 1 PROGRESS CODE Exceeding the end of year grade level expectation; producing quality work consistently Meeting the end of year grade level expectation and producing quality work Progressing towards the end of year grade level expectation; producing the required grade level work with teacher direction and assistance Beginning to develop the end of year grade level expectation, not yet able to produce required grade level work N/A Not Tested At This Time Foundational Skills Standards Below is a chart of suggested quarters to initially assess students on these portions of the foundational skills standards (aligned with instruction in Wonders). Complete mastery of standards is not expected until May, so teachers may have to assess a student multiple times until mastery. After a student masters a standard, teachers should determine the appropriate next steps for instruction and assessment. Many of the standards listed have assessments created on ESGI (indicated by MCPS on ESGI). When considering reporting on report cards, students will earn a “3” when they meet end of year grade level expectations (whatever time of the year that occurs). 3 MCPS 2nd Grade ELA Pacing Guide 2022-2023
