INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONSfor Aluminum Windows with Nail Fin (JII004)Thank you for selecting JELD-WEN products. Attached are JELD-WEN’srecommended installation instructions for Aluminum windows withan integral nail fin. While the use of these installation instructions isrecommended, installation in strict compliance with AAMA specifications(2400-02) is an alternate method of window installation. Use of the AAMAspecifications (2400-02) will not affect application of the JELD-WENlimited warranty.Newer construction methods have led to an increase in air and watertightness in buildings. This frequently leads to negative air pressureinside the home, which can draw water through very small openings. Our installation method integrates the window with the weatherbarrier of the structure (typically building wrap).IMPORTANT INFORMATION & GLOSSARYNot all window types may be installed into every wall condition in allareas. Consult your local building code official for applicable buildingcodes and regulations. Local building code requirements supersederecommended installation instructions. Please Note! Installations where the sill is higher than 35 feet aboveground level, or any product installation into a wall condition notspecifically addressed in these instructions, must be designed by anarchitect or structural engineer. Failure to install windows into square, level, and plumb openings could result in denial of warranty claims foroperational or performance problems.Note to Installer: Provide a copy of these instructions to the buildingowner. By installing this product, you acknowledge the terms andconditions of the limited product warranty as part of the terms of thesale.Estimated InstallTime for NewConstructionFirst Time: 3 hrsExperienced: 2 hrsProfessional: 1 hr11 12 1109823476GLOSSARYBuckA wood framework attached to the masonry inside a window or patiodoor rough opening.Mull JointThe joint where two or more window units are structurally joinedtogether.Mulled UnitTwo or more window units structurally joined together.Precast SillA pre-formed concrete block placed in the sill of a masonry/block wall tosupport a window.ShiplapThe layering method in which each layer overlaps the layer below it sothat water runs down the outside.Weep Hole (weep channel)The visible exit or entry part of a water drainage system used to drainwater out of a window.5ROUGH OPENINGSThis installation guide specifically addresses masonry/block wall, sheathed wall and open-stud construction.MASONRY/BLOCK WALL CONSTRUCTIONThis installation assumes thata framework of studs (oftencalled a buck) has already beenproperly fastened and sealed tothe concrete/masonry wall by abuilding professional.BuckFULLY SHEATHED WALL CONSTRUCTIONThe wall framing is covered by sheathing. Windows will be mountedflush against the sheathing. This installation assumes building wrap isproperly installed prior to installation.OPEN-STUD CONSTRUCTIONThe wall framing must becovered by backing supportbefore the window can beinstalled. The window will bemounted with the nail fin flushagainst the applied backingsupport.Sheathed WallHeaderKingstudTrimmerstudsThis backing support should be aSheathingnon water-degradable, thin (max.1/8" thick) sheet material suchas vinyl sheeting. Completelysurround the rough opening withthe backing support. Backing support must be applied before buildingwrap.
